Reviews for Cradle of Filth - Dusk and Her Embrace:
this was my first cradle album, and i love a gothic romance
Review by: black_sunday
This Cradle of Filth album is the second best album. It's not as vampiric as Vempire, but it is veeeeeery very gothic and bloody... it reminds me of castles and orgies and gothic vampiric romance... forbidden or unfulfilled love... it's just wonderful!!! No need to mention Sarah's and Danielle's vocals... they are just astunnishing! The keyboards are marvelous, moody, doomy... dusk... time that vampires get out to haunt.. to love and drink deep of blood.
This Cradle's album passes all these feelings, and much much more. The whole instrumental is just PERFECT.
If you're into these gothic vampiric (etc) stuff, you just must have it...

Ahh yes.. Not my favourite CoF album, but definately the best if you're in a dark/brooding mood. it's so enchanting. If you really like classy stuff, violins, pipeorgans. typical instruments that accompany black metal, get this album. It's simply one of Cradle Of Filth's most classical album. I love this album, and it's really hard to describe it, but I assure you, it's a good album.

not bad at all, plain and simple fast gothic metal with non of this arty farty stuff, dana has stopped writting songs with a dictionary out in front of him so he aint screaming about bullshit but it still aint black metal by a long shot oh yeh the slayer cover is the best thing on this record

This album would have to be in my top five albums. It shows talent in what the Filthies are doing and through this album there is no contraversy in saying that. Great vocals, guitars, drums, keyboards and very attractive female vocals. I don't see why other black metal cunts have to keep bagging this band - what is their to bag about?
It is too good not have. If you don't have this album your Gay!

An absolute masterpiece. CoF is one hell of a band (everything they do is just so damn good), but Dusk... is definately their best. It has a certain epic quality that simply is not matched by any other black/ extreme metal band I have ever heard. Every song is different, but they are all equally impressive: "Malice Through the Looking Glass" is a beautiful mystifying piece that may even appeal to some who (for some reason) hate metal, and "Beauty Slept in Sodom" is intricate and deep (love that harpsicord intro) with cool lyrics and an awesome ending. And of course the gothic lyrics of every track invoke awe, with tremendous ballads and poe-like gloom. You cannot live without this album, if you consider yourself a CoF or black metal fan. Absolute work of Art.

CRADLE OF FILTH - DUSK ... AND HER EMBRACE
Released on Music for Nations 1996.
I've been a metallist for... maybe three years now, and first album I heard was Cradle of Filth's "Dusk ... and Her Embrace" (along with Dimmu Borgir's SBD), which impressed and encouraged me to the black metal stuff. I am forever grateful for Cradle of Filth to find my life in metal. But how many years has it gone when releasing this record? Six, and this record doesn't seem to lose its rapture. I know, it's been heard through ages and everything and the hype around it doesn't seem to fade. Therefore I must say, that too much advertising made this record a bit less-valued than it would have been without the hype. But...
This album has probably four different versions of it, but like the sitekeeper said; it must be a part of their marketing strategy. I've bought the record with the 9 basic songs and got the bonus tracks from the internet and I must say that they aren't as good as the primary songs are. My favorites are "Funeral in Carpathia" (though the faster version is a bit better), "A Gothic Romance", "Malice through the Looking Glass", "The Graveyard by Moonlight" and "Haunted Shores", which I consider the best song from this album. In fact, this song made me listen black.
The sounds are an odd thing. They are a little bit too 'humming' and therefore they're really a thing I'm neutral on. Songwriting is good, but one complaint regarding the instrumentals; there are too little of them! Why not so many that was on "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh" album? Unlike the previous album "Vempire / Dark Faerytales in Phallustein", their female vocalist Sarah Jezebel Deva doesn't sing as passionate as in "Vempire". That's a really bad thing, and it drops the points of vocalwork. Artwork is fabilous, and that picture, where they feasting the woman, I found it funny. Nicholas got hungry, that's all.
Player's musical skills are at high tide! Damien is (in my opinion) the best Cradle -keyboard player and Stuart is the best lead guitarist (not that they've had many, but he kicks the shit out of Allender), Gian is a new guy and he's okay, I think. Which brings me to Nicholas... The skills he showed us on "Cruelty and the Beast" were totally fascinating, and he doesn't dissappoint you this time either. Dani is also astounding like he always is.
"Dusk ... and Her Embrace" doesn't quite reach the status "Vempire" had, but a grrreat sequel (to the slaugher). Buy this, if you haven't got it and then you'll know what's the hype around it!
Music - 93
Lyrics - 90
Playing - 91
Vocalwork - 87
Sound - 89
Overall - 90 out of 100

This is the better gothic black metal album ever made. Those who think that Cradle is a cock group better hear Manolo Escobar.
Review by: aldanar
I enjoyed this album a lot and as I take a look in the band latest works, a shadow covers my mind.
Save for "Cruelty" I feel that none of them have even the half the quality of this album. The thing is that i think there's no turn back, but they are still much better than Manolo Escobar ;P

To all who dare to say that this is not black metal, I have to say that this is the BEST vampiric black metal album ever. It´s not norwegian black metal, nor it´s swedish, it´s something different, another kind in the same style. Full of melody and violence, a true masterpiece to be worshipped by all extreme music lovers. There will never be again another Dusk...and her embrace.

Hello guys, don't complicated your life... this album is simply one of the best produccion of black-metal (gothic music, or... who cares???)... of the history of this music, is perfect, unique, original, excellent... I don't want to say no more... just listen "Haunted Shores of Avalon", the best song of dark music that I ever heard in my life...

This is Cradle of Filth's best album guitar work is like a mix of Iron Maiden and Slayer. Dani did a good job on his high pitched screaming vocals. I really love this cd by Cradle of Filth.

Dark, evil, erotic, gothic, extreme, melodic, epic, atmospheric are just some words, which cannot fully describe this black metal masterpiece. The artwork and the lyrics are better than never. Songs such as 'Funeral in Carpathia' and 'Dusk... and Her Embrace' redefine the term 'Gothic Metal'.
9/10.

What´s the meaning of "True Black Metal" to you? Guys burnig churches? Band members killing each other? Pseudo-satanic dudes feasting with chicken blood and Jack Daniel´s? Satanism means Respect, Autonomy, and stuff you and some other people may not understand.
And now, the album: the second best CoF´s opus, Funeral in Carpathia, Haunted Shores and Gothic Romance exhalt the band´s glory... Top Ten in every METAL fan´s collection.

By far the best album Cradle of Filth has to date. Complete with gothic piano and melodic guitar background parts, and the very heavy black metal riffs, this album is the pinnacle of gothic/black metal. The best songs are Gothic Romance, Dusk and Her Embrace, and Haunted Shores.

You know i find rather humourous individuals that Claim a band is NOT THIS GENRE and then compare it to bands of THAT VERY SAME genre. Cradle of filth is not black metal Fine stop comparing them to Black metal bands then. And this Cradles 3rd official album and without a doubt one of the best GOTHIC METAL albums ever released. This album has a very strange atmosphere about it.It takes you to another place and that in my mind is what music should do.This album keeps the rapid fire speed and slow instrumentals of the earlier work but in this case melts them together to bring you a brilliant piece of music.Much more technical but also much more melodic. By far one of the best albums to be released in the GOTHIC genre.

I think the best way to have a good opinion about this band, is listen to this album, this album is very, very good, maybe the best album they have ever did, the lyrics, Dani’s voice, the music itself, everything here is beautiful, absolutely. This album, have one of the greatest song, I have ever head in this band, “A Gothic Romance”… this song is beautiful, it steals my words, I don’t say the others are not good, because all this album, is fantastic, but this song, I don’t know how to explain, when I listen to this song, I’m like…I don’t have words for this, is very, very good, and this album, is the best really… Cradle album’s are just great, and this one, is the prove.

Just amazing. This is probably the best melodic black metal album i have ever heard in my life. forget what other people say about cradle not being black metal. This is TRUE black metal. The Guitars, drums, haunting keyboards all add up to the scene.
Recommended to all Black Metallers. 100/100

Dusk...And Her Embrace, the album which I can't get enough of! I've listened it almost a 10000 times, and it never starts boring me. The drums and the guitars are so well-combinated, it's like a wall of music, espessialy in Funeral in Carpathia. Dani's vocals are so embarrassing, my stomach crumbles when I hear him singing, talking or whatever. Heaven Torn Asunder is one of the best vocalic nr's ever made by Cradle of Filth! Most magical is the song Beauty Slept in Sodom, so wonderful, and also magical is the "sweet" keyboard in Her Gothic Romance is, I wish I could play like that... but still my favourite is Dusk... And Her Embrace it's self. Nocturnal Suprmacey is also beating like a stone, one of the calm nr's on that album, but that is a good passage between A Gothic Romance and Dusk... And Her Embrace. And is fits perfectly with the intro of the album! I think I should mension all the songs which are recording on that album (what I've nearly already done ;-)), but that will be quite boring I think 'cause all of them are so god damn good!
Dusk... And Her Embrace is one of my favourite Cradle Of Filth -albums (although I think they ALL albums are my favourite ;-) but this is one of the best). Nothing less then a good review for this album... I'll go listening again, can't get enough :-P.

CRADLE OF FILTH
Dusk and Her Embrace: Gothic Black Metal
This cd is a masterpiece exploding with emotion and dwelling in a very serene, meloncholic atmosphere. Each song is unique and powerful. Revovling around an intense cycle of shredding guitars and blast beats or more mellow and full of multiple melodies; incuding very vivid keyboards. The depth of each song unexplainable but Cradle of Filth deffinetly out does themselves with this release.
Sadly the band later becomes very commercial and produces three other versions of this album each with a little bit more bonus material then the next. I highly recomend this cd but the original version, if you can't find it don't contribute to their commercialism by buying there digipack bonus crap. It is part of their marketing strategy...pathetic, why did they have to go sour...
9.5/10

Rubbish. like all the stuff this band created, this album means absolutely nothing more than some people's energy from childhood's suburbia is good for wastepiles of the bourgeosie.

dusk and her embrace, lets face it it's the best cof cd period. they really got down the evi that you feel when you listen to this gothic art. violent and somewht yet gentle they bring you in to the cold dark grave while you feel her dusk and her embrace

Yo, it's Joe!!!
I liked a few songs. It wasn't so bad. It wasn't one of my favorites though. I didn't really like Dusk and Her Embrace too much, but that's just me. I thought A Gothic Romance was quite catchy

this was an excellent album, heaven torn asunder was a great song, and so was dusk and her embrace. they shouldn't have turned the graveyard by moonlight into a insrumental, they should have rerecorded it and put it on the album. overall, it is a great vampyric/gothic album.

I only own two CoF albums, "Cruelty And The Beast" and "Dusk And Her Embrace" but when I'm listening to this one, I know it must be the best Cof album ever released. It's a gothic metal album with some black metal influences, the sound quality is really high and the album is lengthy. Here the instruments work in perfect balance and harmony, and create a thick athmosphere. This is a great album and i'd give it 9,5/10.

If there was one COF album worth listening to, this would be the one. Forget all your pre-established notions of COF and listen to this album as though you're never heard of COF before. It is so fucking evil its scary. I don't care about the fact that its not necro or grim - cause this album is more evil than any Darkthrone release. The sheer vampiric evil is pronounced on this release more than any other. Dani's vocals never (and never will) sounded so spine-tingling (HIGH). The artwork is amazing and disturbing in more ways than one. The album as a whole is great and never gets boring and there are plenty of great riffs to go with the gothic keyboards. "Red roses for the devil's whore" is my favorite track.
