Reviews for Satyricon - Rebel Extravaganza:

The most clear, evil and misanthropic sound ever;
killing riffs, abstract and misty lyrics,
filled and pierced with anger, hate and abhorrence to the mankind makes this release worth of 10 points out of 10.

The album makes an impression of the copy of Nemesis Divina,
but the copy of much more internal beauty, darkness and
philosophy.
(exactly as famous Damned in Black vs. At the Heart..)

Rather a logical sequel, than a copy, one must say.
(Would Satyr continue such style, I fancy.)

Let the "true" blackers squeech and grunt about
bald head of Satyr, coarse and "tasteless" cover,
"candy" sound, and some have said.

Personally for me this is one of the best albums of
recent years.
It was listened since the album was released,
and everytime new melodies, harmonies and vague
ties have appeared.

I don't fucking care what "true" black metallers say about Rebel Extravaganza. I know it's not the same as Dark Medieval Times or The Shadowthrone, but in a way that's good. While the aforementioned albums may well be the best Satyricon has ever made, Rebel Extravaganza takes Satyricon's sound to a higher, more complex level...

The production is quite good which really allows the drums to be felt (Frost is one FAST drummer, albeit a really creative one as well). The guitars have the most perfect sound, and the composition of these songs is just more advanced than Satyr's previous work. The material is also noticeably more epic on this release.

Truly, every time I hear some close minded fuck bash Rebel Extravaganza I can't help but wonder how they missed the sheer brilliance of composition in songs such as Tied In Bronze Chains and The Scorn Torrent.

Admittedly I hated the album at first, but with time it proved to be one of the most exciting and fun new black metal albums I have heard. Once you get past some of the industrial overtones, you will realize this is great stuff. Beats having Satyr regressing into playing that uninspiring bland black metal that's out now that many "true" black metallers hail.

On a final note, from what I've heard, the only relatively new band, Impiety, has managed to stay brutal while making their sound rather fresh and interesting. Same with Thy Primordial.

I don't know what are Satyricon fans thinking about this album. This was the first Satyricon album I've heard. It's perfect. Hard, fast, agressive. The whole CD has style (bootleg, etc.). Sometimes I feel bored while listening the last songs, but it's not a problem. The first 2 songs are 100%. I think Frost is awesome drummer, and Satyr's vocals are very hard and agressive. I like it very much. If you want something instead of coffe in the morning, listen to Tied In Bronze Chains, Havoc Volture, Supersonic Journey, Prime Evil Renaissance and Filthgrinder. I'll give it 9/10.

This is one fucking great record. Satyricon HAVE evolved, no more the acoustic cut downs and the forest/folk hymns. Rebel possess tracks that sever the flesh and bone, amazingly well written, and executed "with robotic precision". Frost is inhuman creating such a subsonic din of kickdrums, beautiful.
Note also to Satyr's deep and cutting lyrics, his best he has ever written. Fuck the trendies who think it's True to slag Satyricon these days, this record Slays!!.

Sorry guys, this is fuckin' shit.

This is NOT black metal.
This has NOT medieval atmospheres.
Nemesis Divina will never return,
another band lost.

Only Darkthrone and Abigor still remain

HAIL, HAIL TO THE BLACK FLAME!

SATYRICON - REBEL EXTRAVAGANZA
Released on Nuclear Blast in 1999.

Rebel Extravaganza is the newest (at least when I'm writing this) release from the norwegian cult metal act Satyricon, but the original fans of this band didn't like this. I can't see why not. They have pushed over a bit from their original raw / primitive black metal style and added very strong influences of industrial black metal. With these elements, Rebel Extravaganza easily deserves the place as a best Satyricon album.

60 minutes and 40 seconds. Ten songs. Ten excellent songs. The definite best songs are "Tied in Bronze Chains", "Filthgrinder", "Rhapsody in Filth", "Havoc Vulture", "Supersonic Journey", "A Moment of Clarity" and "The Scorn Torrent". The last is the best.

Satyr's guitarwork isn't really good and it sounds like my guitarwork (rather primitive) but what the hell..? Frost is one of the fastest drummers on blastbeat and double kicking, but Hellhammer (too bad he isn't playing here) leads the genre.

Satyr and Frost are the kings of industrial black metal!

Music - 90
Lyrics - 75
Playing - 85
Vocalwork - 88
Production - 88

Overall - 85 out of 100

I know I've raved about this album in the past, but some things just don't stand the test of time (especially after you've heard a bunch of GOOD stuff). I won't go into a long-winded analysis of what sucks about it because I just simply don't have 9 years to spare in front of a computer. Uninspired riffs, annoying vocals (especially in The Scorn Torrent...BLECH!), happy techno beats/keyboards, blah blah blah. Really boring...I can't possibly think of what I saw in this 2 years ago.

I recently traded this musical abortion for some really good material. On one hand it's not tainting my collection any further, but I feel like I ripped off the guy at the distro (seriously, trading in THIS unworthy crap for some Maniac Butcher? what's happened to my Metal scruples?). But then again, he's got the distro for selling stuff he either has in excess or that he doesn't want. He'll have a hard time getting rid of it, I expect...he might even have to pay people to take it off his hands.

I understand what you're saying ankou, but this album is something that is really toying with you. First you like it , then you dislike it , then you love it , then you hate it... Satyricon will get more and more popularity but en resumé i would say this band is still worth buying. After all it is a great album. rating : 4.5 / 5

Another masterpiece of Satyr and Frost.
Prime Evils Renaissance!

The sound from Nemesis Divina has NOT been kept. “Rebel Extravaganza” is more industrial, but it doesn’t matter, because Satyricon can still play their music and write damn creepy lyrics; so combine the sound of Satyricon with the lyrics set inside a brain of a lunatic locked away in an asylum: Fucking CREEPY! The cd runs for 64 minutes, which is a long time, sometimes also overlong, but almost all the way through you feel locked away with these lunatics; especially “Tied In Bronze Chains” gives me the fucking creeps! Enjoy!
