Not very alike their later releases, not to speak about the releases done after "The Silent Enigma", but still a great deathmetal demo tape. It's some kind of slow deathmetal, already with some doommetal parts. The quality isn't very bad, most of the tapes from the now well-known bands aren't that good, but this one is listenable ánd enjoyable. I still rather listen to some later albums, but it's a nice thing to hear once or twice a year when listening through the whole Anathema discography... Mainly an item for your collection, like most of the early demo's.

If you can stand tape hiss and guitars that sound like they were recorded in a biscuit tin this demo is pretty good, it sounds like it was recorded just before Anathema were completely a doom band, "In The Name Of The Father" has the closest thing to speed drumming you're likely to hear from them, in fact it sounds a little like the first Morgion demo (hmm!)
