Great black meal from norway. The style is the classic Darkthrone black metal but more heavy, well produced and presents some atmosferic moments. The album is great because the songs are old and catch the real black spirit from Norway.

The worst black-metal CD ever. The sound is too dry,the music is worthless,a nothing-meanig SHIT.Who the fuck likes it ?

I'd say this is a rather curious black metal album... it's definitely "old-schoolish" BM, but has some keyboards that add a very good atmosphere. There are two really outstanding songs: Thw Swordsmen and, of course, The Northern Hemisphere, which I'd say is one of the best BM songs ever, despite being a quite slow song... Also, I like the The Cure cover very much, A Forest, from the old album Seventeen Seconds

ahaa, let's see...

carpathian forest reaches out for a place in the frontline blackmetal scene with this effort. brilliant songs, with a slight rock 'n roll undertone, which appeals me a lot.
the sound is great, the bassguitar is very good, and the drums sound nasty. nattefrost's doing a great job on the vocals too, and songs like my favorite "pierced genitalia" and the self/album-titled "black shining leather" are both catchy but still "nekro"-sounding.
also nice is the The Cure cover... great... :-)

i give it a maximum of points, just because it's an album worth listening over and over again.

This will be one of my favorites when it comes to black metal. the agony and pain ( which are the main issues here, unlike most black which concernes mostly hate ) are brought here at a finest tone comparing this to the band's rest of releases.

This is the classic Carpathian Forest record. Solid from beginning to end. Not for those that have a problem with violence (mainly of the S&M directed to female kind). Lyrics like "pick up your teeth with your broken fingers,
the color purple suits you fine..(or something like that)". Surprisingly, all the tracks stand out on their own and don't sound alike at all. The best tracks are the first 5 ones, namely "the Swordsman" which actual demonstrates a sort of emotional turmoil I wasn't aware Carpathian Forest was able to convey. Masterpiece, 10/10
