Technical Death Metal with keyboards. One of the guitarrists have kind of Yngwie's style, and he does really good. As a whole this album is a kind of hybrid between technical Death and Swedish Death style.

I bought this record a while after it was released in late 93. I had heard from the singer in At the Gates (Tompa) that it should be worth checking out. And was he right about that! This is still one of my favorite albums of all time.

The production is not really the best,it could be more polished and a bit more clear. But it's good enough and being recorded in early 93 (most likely with a minimum amount of overdubs and no digital editing)it's well recorded enough to showcase the bands instrumental skills and phenomenal song writing.

It is hard to put a label on Crypt of Kerberos. Sometimes it reminds me of Morbid Angel (they have some disharmonic riffs which sound similar to M.A.). Other times it sounds like Yngwie Malmsteen (the guitar players in Crypt must have been some of the most advanced during those days, check out the sweeping in for example The Sleeping God!)
With songs like Dream... I come to think about Faith No More.

A friend of mine kept saying he thinks they are influenced by King Diamond and that might also be true. The drummer Mattias might have checked out some of Mickey Dee's drumming on Them and Conspiracy.

There are alot of rolling double bassdrums and Mattias has a quite unique aproach to his drumfills, punctuating the flow of the rythm with accents on splash cymbals for example. Alot of the drum parts are very surprising and build on pretty advanced cymbal playing. Listen to the song Dream... for this! I hear some echoes of Fenriz drumming on the first Dark Throne album Soulside Journey which is not bad!

Furthermore the band was very early with using clean melodic male vocals. The singer Christian uses several different ways to sing, dark growling, high pitched screaming and with some songs there are effects like flanger added giving Christians vocals an original sound.

Stylistically they are all over the plays, but it still sounds like a band with one sound. Furthermore I think they manage to balance their over all "mystical" songs with a very strong sence for melody but still keeping it Death Metal.

An australian label (Bleed Records)are going to release an compilation CD with the bands first demos and 7" EP's and some material recorded after World Of Myths in the near future, can't wait! Until the I advice you to hunt this CD down!
