DEICIDE – Insineratehymn (CD USA 2000 - Roadrunner Records)

Deicide anno 2000… Let’s see what’s new. >>> ‘Slow Parts’… Deicide and slow parts, go figure!
The first thing my ears catch is the slick sound, everything sounds very clean and licked. It’s hard to say if it distracts something of Deicide’s ‘famous’ brutality. In any case the music is somewhat more accesible then before. You could say this CD is more ‘easy-listening’ than the previous albums. Don’t worry anyway, it’s still brutal death metal. There are less continuous grinds available on this album; everything sounds more diverse. Of course those grinds had their charm, but I have to say, you have to grow as a band and do whatever you like or dislike.
First lesser point: the artwork. One word: awful. The cover-artwork, if you want to call it that way, is ugly as hell. Three sixes woven into together isn’t the top of design I’d like to say. The booklet layout is clean but OK. There’s no band picture, but yeah, everybody has already seen that Satan’s cross burned into Glenn Benton’s forehead.

Lyrics: ‘Refusal of Penance’
“Grace of god refusal, evil to the end
Instrument of Satan, I have always been
Challenge my conviction to the Baphomet
Smash his crucifixion right against his head.”

I'm going to review this album in a few easy steps. 1. This album is not a groundbreaking album. But neither is it a bad album. For you see this album offers no new goundbreaking riffs or drumming etc. But however, the album is not bad, as stated before. I believe this album was released to be satisfactory and sufficient. Basically in crude analysis it is like a hooker meant to merely please you and satisfy you. Yes that does sound.. um...odd. But back to my point, the album is clearly designated to please your ear drums. Sure the instrumentals could have been much heavier, but they get the job done. 2. Presentation of the songs is clear and contagious. "Bible Basher" is by far the most 'catchy' song on the album. I myself sing the tunes when I work. The only tracks that are boring are "Apocalyptic Fear" and "Refusal of Penance". 3. The instrumentals are slow but at the same time are heavy but not too heavy. Almost like Tomb of the Mutilated by Cannibal Corpse. The guitar solos are splendid and rythmitic. 4. The artwork is subpar, enough said. Overall, this album is above average but yet offers no real groundbreaking riffs etc. Unless if your Christian the album is clearly worth a listen. Omega.

the bad copy of serpents of the light, with no soul, as benton's were compelled to make it. good production, but compared to the previous, it sounds like shit.
