Your Review:

Death Cult Armageddon is a very good album, better than Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia... the start of some songs are more into death metal than black metal... all the band has progressed and is very good. My only deception is: I Thought that the 2 songs on norwegian will be more like some tracks of Stormblast.
The cover "Satan My Master" is very good... one of the greatest songs of the album together with Progenies of The Great Apocalypse... well that's all

this is commercial crap, no black metal left in DImmu

A good album, just like Puritanical.
I think Vortex is one of the best clean voices of black metal.

Rating: 8/10

This album could probably be considered a follow-up to Puritannical Euphoric Misanthropia due to the fact it features all the same members as the last album, including Abbath's guest appearences on tracks 2 and 11 (Progenies of the Great Apolcalypse and Heavenly Perverse).

This album was a tad overrated, having admired PEM from the first time I listened to it, this album feautres a few new elements, including two songs done in their native Norwegian tongue, and a huge (40 or so) piece orchestra.

The album is a great purchase, a great addition to any collecter's collection (especially the Metal Journal and Limited Edition box set version). It very well could be album of the year as far as song structure, lyrics, and sound, but I personally didn't like it as much.

8/10.

Review by: Khold666IsGreat

the music is quiet good...the orchestration is brillant...but only on CD...
listening to it live, this work becomes too boring...
it is definitly more intersting than "puritanical..." and "spiritual...", but still a deeper feeling of former times (like on "enthroned...")is missing...
and the artwork is shit...7/10...

this is good shit and a good headbanging album

This is not bad, but anyway not so good... average. I am glad about that this is not just techno as Puritanical...

Ok that's it, i have had it with Borgir's arrogence. Shagrath telling everyone that they have not been commercialized is like saying that the pope is a muslim. I mean, what the hell is this? Am i listening to one of the most revered and respected black metal outfits to ever come out of Scandinavia, or the original score to some movie nominated for an academy award? The Prague Philharmonic Orchestra?.. Excuse me?? Well the last time i checked, employing an entire orchestra doesn't exactly have its own section in the yellow pages or in the classifieds section of the newspaper. No, it takes a lot of strings to be pulled and uh... a lot of MONEY!!(and in case you didn't know, the record label pays for and sets all of that up) Look, never have i heard an album soaked with more excellent muscianship and talent that its almost dripping it onto the floor, be so incredibly boring, dull and lifeless than this pathetic excuse of a "black metal" cd. Even on their website under their individual profiles where they give you a list of everything from their favorite Dimmu song and album to their favorite beverage they continue to be an embarassment. How insulting is it to all the original and true Dimmu Borgir fans to hear that one of Shagrath's musical influences is Rob Zombie, some of his favorite bands are Chris Isaak and U2, his favorite Dimmu album is "Puritanical.." and favorite Dimmu song is one of those completely heartless non-sensical songs from "Death Cult..". And it doesn't stop with him.. the entire line-up follows suit and not one of them even mentions a song or album before "Puritanical.." Please, do yourself a favor and pick up "For All Tid", "Stormblast" and "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant"... shit, even "Spiritual Black Dimensions" is decent. Get those first three and boycot this ridiculous commercialism.

HAILZ THE ARMAGEDDON-HAILZ DIMMU BORGIR-the kimgs of the melodic-fast black metal!!!

This is a very disappointing album. Where are the great theatratical bombastic melodies that made Dimmu Borgir ?!? So I don't understand why they need Mustis on this album at all. He's totally playing a minor job in the background. I adored their last 4 albums but the songs on this CD can't touch me at all. Hope they'll return soon to their previous style of song-writing. The only plus is the impressive production-sound.

hails when i first listen to the album i didn't find it so good but when i listen it a few times i think it is one of there best albums dimmu borgir stays the best black metal band !!!!! and live there fucking good

It's so fucking overated by many people around the world...commercial crap...can't be regarded as BLACK METAL...Dimmu Borgir sucks...

Review by: ahlan

Well this is the worst dimmu ever , it is a bit puritanical -a-like except for the part that puritanical meant something to me AND THIS IS PURE SHIT !!!
The good parts of the album :
1)the production blasts you off your chair
2)Nicholas
3)Mustis

So you have drums with symphonic parts and that's it , all other metal influences are quite useless , it doesn't matter wich styles you like cause you won't like this... maybe if you like Marilyn Manson but certainly not if you are in True black metal.
If you want to try this band these are the albums I suggest :
Stormblast , Enthrone Darkness Triumphant , Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia.

Puritanical is just like death cult nothing like black , but they've made their " experiment " succesfull on that album.

Review by: um jammer nectarus

DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON is not a bad Dimmu Borgir-release, it just doesn't have the dark atmosphere from the previous albums... It sounds like Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, but not as good. The band is starting to get all to commercial and I really hope the next one will be more dark... Though I doubt it...

7 out of 10

Well we all know Dimmu Borgir, but why is this already the 2nd album that sucks 1st PEM know this. It's slow, no aggression. "For All Tid" "Stormblast" "Spiritual Black Dimensions" and Darkness Triumphant are good albums by example. Hopefully in the future they will make some chances back to the early days.

solaceablaze you're ridiculous you little young kiddo...
I noticed one thing... you said Shagrath's music influences were Rob Zombie and U2... what the fuck is your problem with that? I don't like any of the two.. but so what? I don't step around and leave a repugnant message like yours... respect to be respected kiddo...
If his influences are U2, let it be, what's the fucking problem? Music is not only Metal you freak... in music we have to be more mature, and versatile, if you don't like U2, don't listen to it (I don't like it too)... but your message... how ridiculous.... it made me think how can a person live with a brain like yours...
Well, now bout the album: I really think Dimmu Borgir went influenced by their fame, and got into commerciality, but they are humans, like everyone else... it's normal, that after 10 years of existence, they want to show off themselves a little bit more... I don't agree with that, but that's their choise.. their own way, they chose it, they walk upon it...
Drums are amazing, Nicholas is the same old stuff... a truly hellbound, keyboards are just awsome, I'm a keyboard player and if I played like Mustis, heaven would come to me...Silenoz, and Galder... share the guitar riffs, by the way.. great ones...Vortex strikes in the bass.. and clean voice... one of the most majestic clean voices all over the world...
Well, Shagrath, his voice remains the same... dimensional, rageful, powerful like always.. excellent...
Well, mixing all this... the songs are written in a great form... none of the other world, but great though... the voices, remain the same... plus the clean voice of Vortex.. wich makes the thing better...
At last... to get a little bit into commerciality, doesn't mean properly that the music has to be bad... and this album is the proof...
In the beginning I gave it 10/10 but now I would give it 9/10

this cd was okay, you really have to hear it a million times to like it, but oh well, poor dimmu they really have lost its way,but the cd is still worth having so get it, you wont regret it. but, they are commercial. i watched mtv2 for the first time a few weeks ago, and what a surprise i got! progenies of the apocalypse video! which sucks and is not black metal or satanic at all! pentagram in shagraths eye for 1 second! they try to hard! but the art in the cd and the pictures are amusing.

Review by: fosvart

As you can hear very well at this album, the orchestration is just great, the music is fine.. but the sound engineering is not made very well, Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is very well engineered.. and the vocals is very clear... but here, the vocals is not as clear...

As for the music, it rock! my favorite track is Blood hunger doctrine..

a must buy if you really are into dimmu borgir.

Review by: iNfernum

I think this is a pure commercial peice of shit.
Basicly like everything that this band and cradle of filth do as of late.
This is not a black metal as far as im concerned.

Fairly, this album aint bad,Nice riffs and Synths
But,personally,i dont think that it has any relationship to black metal
especially the second song " Progenies of the Great Apocalypse"it sounds like soundtracks from something like BATMAN or SPIDERMAN
going through this album recalls my memories from STARWARS
i couldnt feel a damn bit of satanic or evilness, but it makes me think of something like JUSTICE LEAUGE
And they still call it BLACK METAL??Don't they feel ridiculous on themselves?
In my opinion they've made a great effort on a new genre"JUSTICE METAL"
i'm sure pussies would like this album

This band is on the right path. Never loses the spirit of music. Darkness. One of the bands that uses thecnological devices, updates himself, makes money but never loses its spirit. Go on guys.

I wouldn't give this iece of shit even 1/10, this is not black metal, this sounds like Metallica and symphony S H I T. Why the hell do good bands always have to fuck it up eventualy? Well that's Satan for you, if they are true satanists than no wonder they've sold out, besides $ stands for Satan.

Perhaps its commercial, but c´mon!, in that case, all you people talking shit about it... HAD BOUGHT IT!!! we´re giving Our money to the bands We like, and as for us our jobs could be in an office, a restaurant or stuff, for them is music, and, as an average human, we´d like to gain life with our jobs and if there is a way to do it better, we do it, maybe this is the case... not a bad album, but not the best, and yet the band is better known worldwide now than before, it doesn´t mean that its worst... evolution is the word... (won´t you tell me when you were 5 or 6 you all listen to extreme metal or something)

Review by: Lord Absu

This is one of my favorite albums by Dimmu, because it offers a large sound difference from song to song. The bassist is my favorite back-up vocalist of all time, often times singing for minutes at at a time, completly stealing the stage. I saw Dimmu Borigir Live at Ozzfest '04, and got the lead guitarist's, bassist, and Shagrath's Autographs. Their stage presence blew me away, and the organs put it all together. I'm giving Death Cult a 10/10, for being one of my favorite Dimmu albums, and for its hauntingly beautiful orchestral presence radiating from several of the songs.

Review by: 133 Panzer

I must say Im quite disappointet with this. There are no beautiful melodies here like on for all tid and stormblåst. The guitarriffs are boring and the background orcestra is annoing. And what the fuck happened to shagraths screams? Death cult and puritanical are the most overrated and worst dimmu albums, I really hope they can come up with some better stuff next time.
I think I'll give this a 3/10.

Review by: manndaudsvinter

Oh please shut the fuck up...all you "true black metal fans" who gives a fuck about your narrowminded opinions...I love pretty much everything Dimmu have done, sure this record isnt quite as good as the last but its still a excellent album...whats wrong with a bit of synth and strings, and clean vocals etc...this isnt sellin out this is musical progression,i personally would be disapointed if this record sounded like the old stuff,i think the "TBMF" are afraid that their beloved BM is being appriciated by non BM fans...so fucking what if it is...if nature was likend to this mentality we'd still be insects and bacteria...please open your minds alittle, and lighten up life isnt all strawberries n cream but havin your head stuck in a black hole isnt good for your soul,i know beleive me...ahh whatever.

I give Deathcult 7 and a half outta 10

Review by: rico

definatly a good album, dimmu could end up very melodic/symphonic black metal and could end up being the next cradle if they dont care which would suck because cradle is horrible and dimmu is much better with the old line up or a line up that is back in the old style either way definatly a good album to buy

Review by: xIbanezAbuserx

Death Cult Armageddon is a kickass album. No real black metal but i dont give a shit. its fucking great. It is yes a lot better than Puritanical

Review by: Krigkrist

I see nothing wrong with the album. Keyboarding gives it a very moody atmosphere. With an album called Death Cult Armageddon and a cover the resembles a World War that caused the apocalypse you need good atmosphere. Well done Mustis Nicholas Barker is a God on the drums. Heavenly Preverse is one of their best songs ever. Vortex continues to be a god as a backing vocalist but sadly isnt used a lot (thats reason #1 why its an 8). Lepers among us is boring thats reason #2. Other than that its a solid album thats better than PEM. For those who whine about, it not being black metal or being sell outs. First of all Black Metal (as much as I love the bands claimed to be it) is hardly a genre. There are so many rules to it that its impossible to be a true black metal band. Sell outs? I dont think so. I think their expanding their music range. And who cares if their commercialized. Bands make music for money. no matter how much they say they do it for fans, its for money, plain and simple. Good album

Review by: Hammerheart87

Not supposed to be listened by true black metal-maniacs for sure. Pretty good consept, but this is done for some fucking teenagers. Worst Dimu-album ever, but still some clever and good songs.

Review by: Arkku

Death Cult Armageddon is a satisfying release. Not as good as their previous work, but still not bad(Though the album needs more synth.) I think people need to stop calling dimmu a commercial band because they are far from it.Dimmu is not an average blackmetal band they have their own style and sound(but it seems from reviews dimmu is what is keeping blackmetal strong)I honestly think people are jealous after all this time dimmu is still in the lime light(and not all other bands are making the cut)
I recomend death cult armageddon but buy it if you wish.

Review by: Arcanechild

My first Dimmu Borgir experiece. I like this CD more than Spiritual Black Dimension & Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, but not more than Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. Killer tracks are= Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse, Vredesbyrd, Cataclysm Children, & Eradication Instincts Defined. Eradication Instincts Defined is my favorite. 9/10

Review by: grimfaust

This album is surely the best album of Dimmu ever.
Its catchy but 'what the fuck!!!!' This isnt TRUE black metal, what the fuck does it matters. Cant you like this because it has succes in the media? FUCKING BULLSHIT!
This is much better than lots of those garbage black bands. Drumwork is thight, guitars are nice, good clear vocals, not so very original screams but still nice, good low vocals, nice structure in those songs!

So if you have nothing mor to say than: "this is commercial" then just SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
Just co listen to your kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr garbage bands! fuckers!

Many reviews around here... it figures... Dimmu Borgir is the most popular black metal band in the world. I don't like Cradle Of Filth; however, I disagree that any of these two bands are commercial. I see a lot of metal-heads out there that say that these two bands are commercial. Of course, they are very successful... but I think this comes with a reason. Here is where I will concentrate only on Dimmu Borgir.

Since they began, Dimmu Borgir were one of the few Black Metal bands to integrate synthethizers in their sound without destroying the essence of their music. Dimmu Borgir always had a symphonic touch in their sound, and it is that touch that I beleive separates them from the rest. Many poeple out there listen to "angry" black metal bands... those kind of bands which release records in 500 copies and then they become "limited" and stuff like that. Why do you think they are like this? Well, I got a news for you. It's not because they're poor or anything. It's because their music is nothing new. Their music is the same old boring black metal with nothing new.

And then Dimmu Borgir comes along, from album to album, releasing one great masterpiece after another. Even their debut album is good. But I really enjoy Dimmu Borgir from their "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" album. Since then, they became increasingly symphonic, complex, creative, AGGRESSIVE. The last two albums are one of my favourite black metal creations.

Cries of "sellout" and "commercial" I hear from all over the place. I personally think that people that label Dimmu Borgir as "commercial" are quite wrong. There is nothing commercial in what Dimmu Borgir made on this album. It's a great offering and its musical complexity made Dimmu Borgir succesfull. If this is not your opinion, then please tell me, what IS commercial in this record? Tell me about the lyrics, if you read them that is. Tell me about the music. I really want to understand what exactly makes one call a band "commercial".

P.S.: And I don't want explanations that refer to the amount of records sold by a band. If a band sells many records, this is because they were good, creative, smart, not "commercial". Commercial is Britney Spears.

DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON 10/10

FILE: DIMMU BORGIR is pronounced GIMME-MORE-BEER. Australia is their native country where they learned from monks to sing with a lisp while gurgling water and wearing black aprons and leather kilts.

THE GOOD...
A solid dark and eerie atmospheric black metal album. Silenoz's lyrics are brilliant(Very, very deep.) With a few songs that Shagrath returns to his native Norwiegan tongue to sing. Most of the tracks are pretty generic sounding but greatly differ in small ways. Such as a melodiic synth riff or Simen's enchanting clean vocals. The cd is full of brillant orchestral sounds and meloncholic atmospher. As for its intensity, its about the same as Puritanical. If you havent heard Puritanical yet its its fast and full of blastbeats but not meant to be one of those crazy intense albums.

THE BAD...
There needs to be more of Vortex's(Simen Haestenes) clean vocals, 2 out of 11 songs doesnt quite cut it. Never the less I didnt find it enough of a problem to lower my score. DEMON BOOGER still rules!

THE UGLY...
The (actual)cd is so plain and boring! The simplest colorless pentagram I think Ive ever seen(Puritanical and Spiritual look fuckin awsome though...Kudos, DAMNU BURGUR) The cover case of the ozzfest addition of the cd looks pure evil though!

POPULLAR TRACKS INCLUCE...
#2 Progenies of the Great Apocalypse
#4 Vredesbyrd
#7 Allhelegens Dod I halveds Rike
#9 Eradication Insticts Defined
#11 Heavenly Perverse

DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON 10/10(flawless)

Review by: arcanechild

When I first bought Death Cult Armageddon I was shocked but in a good way. I have never heard such intensity in a band such as Dimmu Borgir. I was into the 80's scene a lot and all you basically had was the guitars, drums, and the vocals which does get boring after awhile. But with DCA by Dimmu, you got the eerie orchestra and all of this was new to me. I only have DCA and none of their early shit. Some people are not impressed with DCA but I was. Dimmu made me listen to more bands such as Cradle of Filth, Limbonic Art, Sirius, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, etc. Dimmu Borgir was the rerason why I got into Black Metal and I do not regret that from happening. Awesome album in my view, one of the best damn albums I have ever heard.

Dimmu Borgir reached point after which every next album is even worse than the preceding one. I wonder why should anyone buy such crap. D.B. ARE DEAD FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review by: slayerr

Dimmu Borgir's Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia was by far a better album but I still loved Prodigies of the Great Apocalypse so much that I had to give this an 8/10/ 5 for originality and 3 more points for video and the song itself. The orchestral scores here are stunning and VOrtex's vocals are unparalleled. The only thing that did not like is that it's not hardcore. I think Shaggrath wanted to commercialize his songs in a way that it would appeal to the mainstream metal world which isolated true metalheads like me of course but hey! If that's what it takes to put bread on the table it doesn't bother me. All in all this is an alright album, an 8/10. Not as good as Axamenta or Emporor but good none the less.

It sounded like they were heading that way on their last album, but there was 1 big difference that album was GOOD this album is just shit. I think that it's a masterpiece! with death cult armageddon Dimmu create a new dimension of metal
This album is a great mix of:
-Black metal's violence
-Thrash-Death metal's production and riffs
-Industrial sounds
-Movies' soundtracks
This, for me, is the meaning of evolving the sound that is the creation of a new kind of music! Dimmu do not copy other band (like in flames are doing) but invent and evolve their sound album by album and it is for that i think they are one of the greatest band of the new millenium!
Thank you shagrath, silenoz, nicholas, mustis, galder and vortex!
LEADERS NOT FOLLOWERS!

A metal album, to be sure- but Black Metal? Hah! Dimmu has got to stop touting themselves as True Norwegian Black Metal- Those days ended with their 3rd album. Face it guys, it's time for you to hop a jetliner and move to Las Vegas or Hollywood and spew as much commercialism as possible (don't forget your makeup and Orchestra). Soon we'll be hearing "Dimmu Does Megadeth" appearing at a shopping mall near you! Get back to your Black Metal roots and stop acting so darn silly.

Review by: pannick

I say like this:
This is not true norwegian black metal but its not bad because of that. I guess this is how they want their music to sound and either you like it or not. But its not BAD just because its not how true BM sounds.
Some effects are just too much but most of it is cool.
Although I like this, I must say that DB should have been a undergroundband instead so all the fucking teenagers could have stayd listen to they fucking pop-music.
I totaly blame DB for that...

True Black Metal Fans:
All you're doing is progressing the view that we all know you hate: That you're a bunch of whiney poser emo fucks. I know you're not. You're just very deep seeded in your roots. Much like Christians. hmm. Anyway...
I love Death Cult. I love Dimmu. I don't give a flying shit-rag if it's not "true black metal". It sounds good, I like it. Hell; I like Mortiis (the old stuff), I like Archenemy, dammit, I like Alan Jackson and Niel Young.
Death Cult has parts where its simply spine tingling. Most notably with Eradication Instincts Defined.
So, in closing, true black metal fans, it seems you don't like music because it sounds good. You like music if it vaguely sings about satan with nondescript vocals and guitars that you can't even pick out the chords with.

tl;dr version: Enjoy your AIDs, become an hero, do a barrel roll, etc...
