This is better than Spiritual Black Dimensons i think. words cant describe the greatness of this album
the intro is among the best ever written. they hired Gothenburgs symphony orchestra to add some tunes to this album. and GOD. shit... its fucking amazing
Buy this. buy this and be fucking happy!

Review by: Enthroned

this is one of dimmu borgir worst albums i would say.it's a very good album but wasnt what i was looking for.i was looking for of an enthroned darkness truimphant style.the drumming is amazing on this album.this isnt true black metal or true norweigan black metal that dimmu borgir clams to be.but a very good album.i would rated this on a scale of 1-10 at an 8.

Review by: slaughterlord

This album is as good as a cunt! It's fast as all fuck, it has mad riffs, beats and fuckloads of melodic shit. Buy it or go fuck yourself!
Hail to Shagrath, Silenoz and Nick Barker - you cunts kick ass!

Review by: duplo_mccarthy

amazing album. i dont have a clue why some motherfuckers compare this album to acturus' masquerade or even dimmu's other albums. this one stands on its own and is a masterpiece. damn, i still get goosebumps listening to the intro.

"För Alltid" and "Stormblåst" was two great albums! this days Dimmu plays Weird marilyn manson fucking fashion space metal and they can kiss my white ass.

Review by: tompa88

Well Dimmu Borgir did it again: fools out of themselfs that is. This is one big, boring showoff in technics and drum speed. This doesn´t arouse one single feeling and leaves you numb. So why did they put out this album one might ask, well there is one answer to that question: As with all bands who gives up corpspaint and spikebaths in favor of nailpaint and latex, they are changing audience. They want to appeal to the same crowd who digs marilyn manson, that is the unwanted, ungifted teenagers with lots of acne, big glasses, running nose, no friends, no life but lots of cash to spend on dimmu borgir collectibles. This may work in USA but not here in Scandinavia. All true black metal heads knows that there never be another för alltid or a new Stormblåst or even a new Enthroned Darkn... This, sadly, was the final nail in Dimmu Borgirs coffin. R.I.P.
Hail to tompa88-brothers in metal=)

sellout?
give me a break..
im sick and tire of all those fucking purist who thinks that just beacause a band doesnt play primitiv black metal anymore its sellout.
yea right..im sure now all pop fans will listen to dimmu borgir and mayhem..
the new dimmu is similar to the latest emperor..its pretty good.

Review by: sore

I agree with Sore, he's the man, this has nothing to do with a sellout, it's not because a band becomes famous that their music begins to suck, not at all, this is one of the most technical black metal albums ever, Dimmu Borgir still kicks asses

DIMMU BORGIR - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
CD Norway 2001 (Nuclear Blast)

Although I'm not really familiar with their previous
output "Spiritual Black Dimensions", this has to be the heaviest release by Dimmu Borgir ever I think. Brutal, melodic, theatrical are words that come to mind when listening to this record. "True" underground-freaks will surely be disappointed because "the black castle" didn't become more commercial or anything like those morons insinuated all the time. On the contrary when we compare the new CD to, for instance, the second one "Stormblast" we can only conclude that the band sounds faster, meaner and more complex than ever. Just listen to "The Maelstrom Mephisto". The beginning of that track gives you the impression you're listening to Angelcorpse. Obviously the band still incorporates many bombastic parts, but the keyboards were integrated in the music in a far better way.
Secondly, they don't sound like the usual black metal synths, they have a sort of horror movie type-of-feeling to them. Then there's also the clear vocals of Vortex that give an extra touch to the tracks. The fact that his type of singing reminds me a lot of Ihsahn's (Emperor) opera-like vocals can be ignored I guess. But next to all these theatrical elements it is especially Mr. Barker's (ex-Cradle Of Filth) merciless butcheries that stand out. He never sounded as tight on the CD's of his previous employer, nor did he when I saw Dimmu live (maybe that's because his drum parts are very loud in the mix this time). I should also mention that Old Man's Child-leader Galder took over the spot of guitarist Astennu and
that "Perfection Or Vanity" has to be one of the best, macabre and atmospheric instrumentals ever. BTW the contribution of the Gothenburg Symphonic Orchestra isn't as dominant as once pretended in interviews.
Conclusion : Another great album by these successful black metallers with which they'll easily consolidate their position as leaders in this style…
(Man, do I love that artwork!!!)

Lyrics : Left are the kings of the carnival creation, carrying out the echoes of the fallen.

When you listen to this album you find it hard to breed,it`s so fucking good

Review by: Rogga666

This is fucking crap... *puke*

Review by: Flix

To me it is not as good as Spiritual... and Enthroned... . It is IMO an average black metal release, and to compare it the only album that comes in my mind is Revelation 666 from Old Man's child and man I found Revelation boring. I'll stick with their 2 previous full-length. Yes the addition of the Orchestra is a nice idea, but I don't know, it sounds as if it has already been made a thousand times, nothing catch my attention during my listen, as if there were no purpose behind this album, no core, no body, no soul, just Nick blastbeating and Galder showing some OMC guitar style and the only things that kept me listening were Shagrath's vocals and the Intro and Perfection or vanity. You may think it is heavier or more brutal than past releases, whatever. The songs may be heavy but I didn't find a lot of riffs on this that was remarkable, instead they were mostly forgettable. To sum it up, it ain't a bad release, but to me this is a black metal version of a painting-by-numbers, as if Dimmu didn't take any risks at all, they play it safe with this one, and bands like Satyricon and Emperor deserved more praise for having walked new grounds in their sound. But to call them sell-outs?!? People who think bands doing extreme music can sell-out just have their heads up their asses - how can you 'sell-out' with blastbeats and naked chicks in barbed wire on a cover?!? Surely this is what you see everyday at MTV. I mean, sell-out means what, making money while staying the same band or changing your sound to gay pop music? I surely wouldn't have stop to listen to Dimmu if Mourning Palace would have stay 10 weeks at n.1 on the Billboard. Gimme a break assholes.

Review by: arckangell

Dimmu Borgir had only one really good album - 'Stormblast'
'For All Tid' was also not bad
But all the rest albums was just repeating of old ideas in a new form - not a good form
And this is just the worst DB's album - piece of crap

Review by: mik

Yeah, that's great! I listen to the album at least once per week and every time I find something new. The first and the last pieces are one of the best instrumentals of such kind of bands I have ever heard. All the material sounds very good, melodical parts and those typical to black metal are in excellent harmony. Highly recommended to the collection!

Review by: Birute

Not that what I have to say will mean shit after reading all these other reviews but here it goes. I bought this CD when it was released. I listened to it once. I fucking hated it. I'd stick with my For All Tid and Enthrone anyday. HOWEVER, Dimmu Came to St. Louis and I had to go. Hell, they had to play some old shit right? Well, yeah, they played a little. But what got me was how impressed I was with the new shit. Especially Vortex clean vox. (Yeah, I have Quintesence too and discarded it after one listen as well) Yes, the shit I listened to once and discarded. Now with all being said. I love the new album. Yeah, they may attract a few dorks and nerds that think they are true but who gives a shit? Dimmu still kicks ass and I'll be pleased if the next one is as good as this one. So the moral is don't listen once and toss. Listen to it a few times and let it grow on you. But I'm stuborn so it may take me a few albums before I realize I don't like them anymore.

Review by: Deafening_Silence74

SHIT is the word, Comercial is the other word, this album got a little dimmu borgir taste, but that is not the way to follow, they let me down with this one, and the drums sound like tecnoSHIT

Review by: deadtroll

"They want to appeal to the same crowd who digs marilyn manson"... what do you say? Have you listened this album? Have you listened Manson? and now the last question, are there something in your head different than shit and filth that can hear these groups and think that sound different?
You can say this album doesn´t like you, even you hate it, but you can stop saying things wihtout sense. This is black metal, not pop metal; there are bands don´t sound like Darkthrone and play black metal. Black metal doesn´t have to be primitive. You don´t like black metal, you like primitive black metal, don´t fuck me around.

Review by: aldanar

This is a very shitty album, the black metal died and this is how it did. I truly apreciate the early work of this band even the "Spiritual" was a nice work but this is a fuckin´ Arcturus Borknagar Marilyn Manson Rammstein Hybrid...
If you are new in the metal maybe you enjoy this, au contraire this cd will make you veeerrryyy sick.

Review by: Xibalba

Well I must say, that I like this one a lot... I think that Dimmu Borgir is a band that made people to choose - to love them or to hate them... there is no other way... I've chose the first path and it's an interesting path... well, altrough 'Puritanical..' is a great album, I think it could be even better, especially with Peter Tagtgren as a producer...
note: 9.8/10 max

Review by: Diamanda

I dont know what al you fuckers say atormblast is better and shit what the f*** this such fuckin great music not as great as spiritual black dimensions nut its great but dimmu is the only one is this sort of music. Stormblast bands are everywhere but this is special.

Review by: shagrath1987nl

Great album. I think Nick kicks serious ass... Simen, always a personal favorite. I was glad he got to do what he did best or Borknagar... SING.

What surprised me most was Galder; it's one of the reasons I bought the album. I was glad when he joined.

Review by: malevolant_seraph

I don't like this album. The older album were much better, especially For All Tid!

Review by: celtic-frost

why cant anybody have some motherfucking tolerance here. This is one of their best albums ever. but I like bot this and stormblåst. People have to be moe tolerant to changes.

Review by: Theorgrin

This sucks!
Triggered drums, boring riffs, pseudo-art atmosphere, non-extreme vocals, shitty melodies...
Boring to the bone

Review by: Necroking

This is just fucking overrated technoalbum! Shame for me for buying this piece of shit!

Review by: Perkele

I fucking hate this album! it really sucks! Now the Borgir has no more problem with having few good songs and having few poor ones... in this album they have no good songs... Every song is very poor and boring... this is shittiest borgir album ever!

Review by: Lord Night

What the hell?! I loved Stormblast, For all Tid and Enthroned but this...this is not bad but this isnt black metal...this is some blend of thrash metal and symphonies...When I want to buy a black metal album I dont buy some shit from Mozart or that kind of cocksuckers...but this is ok

Review by: Krigkrist

well it looks like they came through again. this is the best, and most technical cd. the band has came out with,in my opinion.the drums are amazing because of nick barker. the songs are very brutal,as me,and everybody else i know loves it. it is well worth the $$$. go get it,as you wont be let down,i promise.if you're looking for something different, but still brutal, this is it.8/12-10

Review by: celtic legions

This cd does have some good moments, but what the fuck, what is this? For those of you who are saying this album is "like Emperor" or "AWESOME!" or whatever, clean your fuckin loops! If any of you really loved Black Metal, you'd know this Album has MTV2 written all over it. If this album was made by someone else, I'd probably respect it more, but I still wouldn't like it, cause it just sucks! I mean whats up with the guitars doing Nu-Metal riffs? (Ex: CHUNG CHUNG CHUNG CHUUUNG!) Shagrath should of just left Dimmu Borgir, he must have Silenoz, the true man behind Dimmu hypnotized, because I can't beleive the same man who brought us For All Tid, stood behind Shagrath's shadow to sell out! Too bad...

Review by: fosvart

i dont really like this cd as much as their old ones, they just changed some but i dont believe that they sold out .... how could any one that believes in black metal being a form of personal expression actually say that, especially about this band, i think its fucking stupid..... as much as i dislike this album i still support dimmu 100% and it does have some good shit on it, just not as much....

Review by: candle_light_chaos

I am sick of all the mother fuckers who get away with thinking dimmu are sellouts or a commercial band.
They are not they are just fuckin awsome!
People need to stop their winning just because they can't believe a band can be so good, they dont need to pretend they dont like them and talk shit.
Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is unusually mesmorizing in both orchastral and heavy sounds.

10/10

Go buy it or die trying!

Review by: Arcanechild

I like Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. I listened to it over & over again, for about 2 weeks. Then it came to complete halt. I rarely pick this CD up to listen to again. That was the only problem. It had absolutely no staying power for me. Good album overall. 7/10

Review by: Lokist

PURITANICAL EUPHORIC MISANTHROPIA 9/10(excellant!)

FILE: DIMMU has again changed atmosphers(and members ) This cd is more electronic sounding(its nothing techno, Dont wet your pants) Songs are smooth and easily fit in with each other.

THE GOOD...
Puritanical starts of with a truly amazing orchestral song. the next track is heavy, fast and has some piano. As the rest of the cd progresses the listener is engulfed in a strange unexplainable atmospher. And the cd ends with an awsome mellow instrumental/orchestral jam. Silenoz creates some interesting and unorthodox lyrics for this album. Sadly they are not as satanic as they were in Enthrone but they are very creative and abstract. The cover art and the cd art is also very unique and detailed.

THE BAD...
FatBarker's picture is boring! (Vortex has a demon coming out of his chest, Shagrath is holding his own head in one hand and a bloody knife in the other and Barker is leaning against a wall. His drumming is awsome fortunetly!)

THE UGLY...
none

POPULAR TRACKS INCLUDE...
#1 Fear and Wonder
#2 Blessing Upon the Throne of Tyranny
#5 Architecture of a Genocidal Nature
#9 Absolute Sole Right
#11 Perfection of Vanity

PURITANICAL EUPHORIC MISANTHROPIA 9/10(excellant!)

Review by: arcanechild

mmm... this dimmu album is pretty good... not as good as Enthroned which takes you out to an inverted world and then kicks you in the balls a million times as you come back just with its aggression. i would say the best songs on this ablum are Kings of the Carnival Creation and Puritani. This album gets a bit boring but its still pretty good. i would recommend it to people who wanna listen to black metal but i would rather show them Darkthrone. 6/10

Its my first review. Let it be the case of Dimmu Borgir. My engish is not so good as it could be. Sorry.
I think that there is a conflict between pople who listen to BM for a long time and people who got into this not so long ago. Im listning since i was 15 so its about 10 years and I KNOW that this what DB are doing is a crap. No I dont want to be trendy and criticize! No I dont want to be orginal! No I REALLY think so! Shit! BM is about emotions and DB are lacking it since they started with Enthrone. Not that Enthrone was bad but the element of stupidity in their music was born about that time. Spiritual had Arcane Lifeforce misteria. At least one good track. then it was getting any worse. Their music since Spiritual Black Dimension has NOTHING to offer. If you like antichristian music go listen to Marduk or Behemoth. They are at least convincing, fuck the dark opera concept. Sweet Jesus, who the hell has invented this crap?? If you like agressivenes go listen to Hate Eternal or Slayer. Slayer is a band that used to be famous, if know what i mean guys!!!They were even in MTV!!!:)
If you think Barker is fast listen to Malevolent Creation ("if you are slow you have to go." by P.Fiascana).
If you think that their lyrics is dark poetry just go and fuck yourself or read something.

DB has simply solved the problem by showing off albums that are fast. Please dont think that they are technical. Please dont think DB is as technical as Angelcorpse. For all tid and Stormblast are simply best. Its not the case that im purist or that For all tid is flawless. There is simply something to review on that albums.
Seeing Shagrath attempting to show The Almighty his long tongue on the Best and Fucking Awesome Clip is a hard time for any guy that is into black metal. They are as Demonic as my farting Granny.
DB has only one talented element in it. Vortex has fantastic voice but how the hell he decided to join this fucking band? Dunno.
BM is dying and calling DB a new BM, cosmo BM, symphonic BM
or something like that is annoying. Let them call themselves
cosmo funny jolly giants from planet Earth. It would at least be funny.

And remember

So pure , so cold... evil... transilvanian hunger!!!!

Ahh I dont know if Dimmu are similar to Marylin Manson cos I dont watch MTV. Fuck you Marylin..

Review by: Maciek

This is true black metal!!!

The songs are so fantastic also the sound!

I think the best song on that album is BURN IN HELL!!

SIX SIX SIX

A great fucking masterpiece like any other dimmu album... no no no don't say "commercial shit, bla bla bla" because it's certainly well produced and more similar to death metal (due to the producer - fredrik nordstrom) but it's fucking original... it's not true norwegian black metal but i don't care... I love this album as I love dark medieval times or anthems to the welkin at dusk or at the heart of winter...
My Favourites:
Blessings upon the throne of tiranny
Kings of the carnival creation
Hybrid Stigmata-The Apostasy
The Maelstrom Mephisto
Symphozium
