"Evanescent, Everfading" is still one of my favorite CDs in my collection. It was released on the now defunct Defiled Records in Colorado. It is impossible to find now days unless you trade or go through eBay. The guitars on this have these flowing melodies-ALL THROUGHOUT the whole CD and they are a very clean distortion like the best Iron Maiden leads. The only thing is the melodies are very celtic and folklike-but in a more sorrowful way than uplifting. Underneath the distortion is a constant bell-like acoustic guitar playing somewhat along with all the melodies but going beneath to harmonize notes that would otherwise just be used to bridge the next riff. The bass guitar is counterpointing EVERYTHING and not following the guitar at all. The bass player is one to be amazed by. At any point when the album becomes repetetive the bass destroys predictability. Vocals and drums are mostly flat-EQ sounding. A lot like Dark Tranquillity's "Skydancer" where the double bass is constant and flowing and the vocals are more black and raspy. Lyrics on this are incredible and deal with a lot of "Skydancer" type lyrics as well. Lots of chaos theory, mythology, astrology, and autumn. This vocalist is not in the band anymore and had problems when they were recording. I understand they are playing music a LOT different than they are now-so if you have heard Fall of the Leafe and were not impressed-pick up "Evanescent, Everfading" and die happy.

At the time I wrote my review for "August Wernicke" from this band, I had not fully listened to this album. I have had time to let it sink it and have realized that I probably enjoy it just as much. I really praised "August Wernicke" and although this album is of a bit more black metal style and I believe has less clean guitar work, it is just as good. If melodic black metal tinted with folk melodies sounds nice to you, check this out.

Recommended songs: "The Celestial Keeper", "The Garden by the Shoreless Sea", "My Weeping Goddess"
