Every now and then a new band is introduced to the market and gives the world a new way of playing an already existing sort of music. This is one of those. Finntroll gives the black metal a badly needed update in a time where the word copycat is a good explanation on most new bands. The problem is that the atmosphere of the album is depending on where either you know Swedish languish or not for the lyrics gives the album an even more pleasant listen. Buy this CD and follow a journey through the darkest forests and help the trolls to slay the christian plague.

I love it. Truly stands out from the herd in Black Metal, it is unheard mixture of many forms of music and Black Metal. Good composing, the songs roll as Hell!

This is something new, so everyone cannot merely even understand it at least yet. In Finland it is more accessible since the part of this music is about finnish folk music stomping!

Finntroll is one of the most original extreme metal bands to emerge during the 90's. This debut album is definitely the better one of the two, as it is much more consistent; the downside though is that it clocks in at less than 30 minutes. Midnattens Widunder is a concept album, telling the story of trolls setting out to crush the followers of the Christian religion. It is obvious that this album was written with good humour and should not be taken seriously, lyrically nor musically. For those open-minded people who get the joke behind the music and enjoy fast folk melodies and polka styled black metal, this album is a winner.

it is a pleasure to listen to finntroll!
not only, that they inventend something new, they invented something gorgeous!
this polka metal is what i call good-mood and party music!
and to everybody who has not seen finntroll live in concert...DO IT! they're one of the best live-acts i've seen yet!

this is finntroll's best album and one of the best black metal albums in general, although, as you have probably already found out, it has nothing to do with so-called "true" black metal. The songs are just perfect mixtures between aggressive bm-parts, really funny keyboard melodies and humorous violent, anti-christian lyrics about trolls slaying priests and so on. i'd really like to see the band play live one day!

I think the best part is when they in the song "Vätteanda" sings "Ofött barn och havande kvinna smaka bäst i nattens dimma". But the last song is fun too... ooh, never mind. All the songs rox!

This is the loudest and rawest album of finntroll. Though it is not their best record,it is always fun to hear this merry bunch of trolls in their begin stage.
