Your Review:

I know Mayhem as the group which make absolutely underground music which is not for everyone.
This album is the darkest and phycho black metal I have ever heard - it's dark, full of black mood and aggresion and worshiping The Dark Lord. It's one of my favourite albums because of its difference from the other black metal bands. The vocals are unstandard and the great guitar work makes the album /my opinion/ the most atmospheric and valuable black metal album. I know that many people don't think like me but Mayhem is the only pure underground band and this album shows it absolutely obvious.
And think about that: Which drummer in the black metal scene can make such drum beats as Hellhammer does?

HAILS TO ZAGULE!!!, He knows!! , De mysteriis... is fucking superb!!, this is the work of trueness, amd greatness. Each track a masterpiece of Black metal!, every second of this record reeks of the cold northern breeze.

This is a cult album in itself, its wonderfull, splendid, exquisit. Don't forget that Varg Vikerns aka Count Grishnark did most of the drumming on this album, and Hellhammer just finished what hadn't been finished before releasing the album.

Hail Dead and Euronymous.
Hail the fallen.

Dark, gloomy, bleak, satanic, atmospheric, what else could you ask for in a black metal band? It is absolutely awsome. Every time I listen to this I get shivers down my spine and I fell like killing something. If you are a true black metal cunt then you should fucking get this mother fucker. If your not a true black metal cunt from norway, then fuck off!

If any of you read that post before, completely disregard what that person said about Varg doing the drumming on De Mysteriis. That is absolutely rediculous, he played bass on the album. But as for the album, pure masterpiece and THE perfect black metal album.

I can't find anything perfect from this album, except "Funeral Fog". Csihar's demonic vocals really scares the hell out of me. Of course, yes this is that REAL black metal, but I'm not into this album really. I prefer more the newest one (OK, mock me if u must). But Hellhammer's drumming isn't really at high tide in this recording (except his continuous blastbeats in "Buried by Time and Dust"), so man, this really isn't my shit. Though, if this pure black metal, then it is what it is. I like more the modern BM. But this is probably the best pure black metal album after Immortal's Pure Holocaust.

P.S. - Count Grishnackh sucks. Euronymous would be creating some killer music if he hadn't been born. Such a shame he did.

Malignant, breathtaking, epic... this is just the best material ever to be put out by the Mayhem horde. Some older songs re-recorded with a much better sound (Freezing Moon) and some new ones, just as great. There is really nothing else to say, except for those who don't like the vocals; I think if the album had been recorded with normal harsh vocals, it would have sounded so ordinary; I mean, the music is superb, but Mayhem has never been a band to follow a trend. Bands follow Mayhem, so they decided to go with the different stuff. And I think they got it.

i think that de mysteriis sathanas is one of the best mayhem albums, but i liked the albums when dead was on vocals...and deathcrush is so much better, i didn´t like the vocals to much...and i also think burzums first three albums are way much better then any of mayhems...

If you think that this is a good album it’s because you don’t know a SHIT about metal music…Simply as that….Attila Czisar is probably one of the most terrible and hilarious singers in the black metal scene, and it’s not a secret that Mayhem had gain too much fame due the terrible story between their members…but let’s be honest, this guys just want to fuck with their fans, they want to be evil, look evil, sound evil and try to convince you that they’re really evil…Image, just like Cristina Aguilera does…No music value, just another piece of crap

Review by: Zamzack

Well, what can I say about this album... yeah it´s cool black metal, played by the legendary Euronimous and the outrageus Hellhammer... but beside the historical facts, and all the dark and funeral fog surrounding, this album isn´t evil!!!! it´s like hearing Popeye doing the vocals, the music is great but the vocals are too much funny and the dark feeling gets lost....

I think this is a very good album, but I still more like Deathcrush.

De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is in my opinion the greatest album released by Mayhem. The nocturnal mood throughout this album is indescribable with words, and is an experience which is a must for any fan of true norwegian black metal. At first I needed time to adjust to Attilla chisar's(former member of Tormentor) special kind of vocal performance, but after listening through the album a few times I realised how geniously this certain kind of vocal fitted with Mayhems brutality and nocturnal mysticism. Furthermore, the lyrics is an chapter for itself; as fascinating, mystic and inspiring as it gets. Along with the former mentioned nocturnal mood, there is an aggression and speed to it which makes this album exceptional. This release is a must in any respectable extreme-metal collection. Hail Mayhem!

This album is truly a masterpiece. I think the vocals are just perfect for this kind of atmosphere. You really can flow into the darkness with this one. Superb.
10/10.

Not many bands make an album which is worth all the money, but Mayhem did it back in '93. With DE MYSTERIIS DOM SATHANAS they made a classic and memorable gem for the world of metal. I recommand everyone to listen to this one, I doubt you'll get disappointed.

I was persuated to buy this cd after reading many reviews that sayed how dark it was. Well for me it is no way compared with the dark atmosphere of burzum ,emperor, darkthrone and many more black metal bands. Why you will ask... Well guitars are good and create a dark mood lyrics also but the vocals at most songs are really riducolous.See funeral fog and freezing moon which are real classics and are ruined by these silly vocals.Listen to emperor's tribute to mayhem at funeral fog and you will understand how this song was meant to be.Anyway it is still worthy buying cause it has some really killer guitar riffs. 6/10

i do consider myself one of the luckiest black metallers since i found in a used cd store a copy of Nordic Metal-A Tribute to Eurnymous. It has two songs from DMS on it, the actual studio version of Freezing Moon with Dead, and Pagan Fears with Maniac. Those two fucking rule, Live in Leipzig was awesome, but with Attila on vocals on this album? BLOWS! He sounds likes hes fucking moaning and dying, and not in a good way dying. From the Dark Past is the most annoying song i ever heard since his lame voice is over it, but hey if your a Mayhem fan like myself, you would get it. But don't expect some gold here, expect it to be collecting dust in your cd case. And, if you have a mixer or good ear, here the dueling bass lines, the one that sounds shitty and more low than the other, by Varg Vikernes, aka Cunt Grishfuck. And, this was the last cd Euronymous was on, so i guess it was worth having....
60/100

Review by: foSvart

this is the best black metal album ever,
whit blackthorn, attilla, grishnack, euronymous, and hellhammer

Review by: gutsfuck

very impressive cd.... none of the tracks isn't amazing...
attila is great, he seems not human.. guitars are hypnotic sometimes, and drums are excellent.... the title track is probably the best blackmetal song ever! even if "eternal life" is almighty... this si the Mayhem's best album...
powerful since the first riff...

This is an absolute BM-Classic. Every song is a true legend!
A "must have" for every Black-Metal-Disciple!

In my opinion, the best Mayhems album, without a doubt.
But not even close the best BM album i know.

slava

This fucking rocks
One of the fucking greatest blackmetal albums ever.
This is piece of TRUE NORSK ARISK BLACKMETAL!
No crap like CoFs, Dimmu's, DarkFuneralz and other fucking looser bands. Fuck Everything! MAYHEM'LL Live ETERNALLY.

Too bad that dead isn't on vocals, but on that we use bootlegs, aren't we?

10+/10 for me, as for this psycho, claustrophobical climax.

Mayhem " De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas"
Wow just wow i was completly blown away by this dark nihilistic art of Mayhem it contains all the greatest songs.Atilla's voice is amazing the tight mean vocals like on "funeral fog "and the opera vocals on "dmds" just makes it more interesting and special , many praises go to dead and for good rideance but atilla is just so special. The riffs that euronymous and snorre created make's me shiver again and again so doeswx the amazing drumming of helhammer . Also the bass lines on "life eternal" are perfect varg's did a very good job on that one.9.5/10 the second best bm effort for me but the only one that get's a 10/10 is "a blaze in the northern sky" by darkthrone nothing beats that unholy masterpiece of ice cold and ugly black metal

Review by: waskara

one of the milestones in blackmetal. Funeral Fog, Pagan Fears, Freezing Moon and many more of this crushing blackmetal...I can't Figure more words....

De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas:

After much chaos amongst the band, with Dead's suicide and Varg killing Euronymous, Mayhem are back with a new lineup and an attitude to kick some ass. As much as I love Euronymous, he wasn't really all that technical of a guitar player, and I think the addition of a more skilled musician really helped the band. Hellhammer's drumming isn't as legendary as it is today on this album, but it is still really tight. I think the most noticeable aspect of the album is Attila's unique vocal style. I admit that at first, I absolutely hated this album, and the new one, Ordo Ad Chao, because I just couldn't get into his voice. But looking back, I think those are my two favourite albums. His voice is just so original. A grim and dark record, Mayhem showed the world that they were back stronger than ever. 9/10

Review by: False Messiah

This is a must-have for all black metalists. It has a dark atmosphere (unlike their previous album Deathcrush, that was much more about noise) and very strange vocals. I know some Mayhem fans would rather hear Dead's screams on this album, but I am just glad Attila did vocals. It sounds much better, because such vocals make atmosphere too (unlike pure screaming and shrieking). But of course, Dead wrote the lyrics with such dark themes. When I first hear this album I laughed at vocals, but now I think Attila is one of the best metal singers.

This was my first encounter with Mayhem and is still the one Mayhem album that really blew me. Definitely a black metal masterpiece.
10/10
