Mostly the same as US Legions, the only exception being the absence of "Necrolust" live, but they put "freezing moon" instead. Fact is, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is my favorite Mayhem album (and one of the greatest black metal album of all time in my opinion) so this is a slight advantage for this one, because I think this song rules. So if you have the choice between thses 2 live album take this one, but otherwise, it is the same great-sounding but not that good live album, but it's still Mayhem and it rocks. Hail!

Mayhem - European Legions
Bootleg release in 2001.

What is it like to hear old Mayhem tampering the glory of the new Mayhem with blur sound and Maniac on vocals? One simple answer might be "Mediolanum Capta Est", but it's not. That is one god damn piece of shit release, but with killer new songs like "View from Nihil" and "To Daimonion" it really crashes my ears.

Hellhammer is bleeding fast beats and Blasphemer's dark and damnative shrieking riffs tear the brains out from my head (just like Dead's but in a different way). Eventually, there will be the time I begin to like even the "Deathcrush" EP's songs (which are all terrible crap!), but I hate the fact, that Mayhem doesn't play "Funeral Fog" live anymore! So, this (and several other live albums) suffered the loss of that truly admirable song. Dark as my soul is, Hellhammer's bastard live beats kick the shit out of his Pearl -set and you know what? That's not even a f..king miracle considering he's an ex-sanitarium patient! To some of you, this may be new information, but to others I'm repeating the story that's been told in the book that tells the story of the acts in norway nearly a decade ago. What am I babling?

The sounds are pretty good, but the preproduction tracks are the best (in my opinion) from this release. Take "View from Nihil" preproduction for example; that has ultra-quality sound and a grrreat playing, but it doesn't lead the actual version that can be found from "Grand Declaration of War" -album. So for "European Legions", it's pretty damn good. Just like arcangell said, if you have a chance to grab this, seize the shit. That's all, folks!

Music - 87
Lyrics - 72
Playing - 88
Vocalwork - 79
Production - 79

Overall - 81 out of 100

Post Scriptum:
That's very good grade considering I'm not an actual Mayhem fan. I like only "Grand Declaration of War" and a bit of "Wolf's Lair Abyss"... and of course "Funeral Fog".

This CD is ok, but how many official Mayhem-Live-CD's needs the world in a very short time???

Not a bad live album, it left me wanting more at the end of "Pure Fucking Armageddon" it was raw and sound was a bit scratchy, but that's what live music is...raw, aggressive and barely audible. I gave it a 9 for a stellar effort on "Freezing Moon" and "Chainsaw Guts Fuck"

total crap!!!! go listen to live in leipzig and compare it to this shit. maniac sucks big time compared to dead & attila. hellhammer's drums sound like kettles & are worse even than ulrich's snare in st. anger. moreover, whoever thinks he's a great drummer should check freezing moon, where he manages to lose the meter at least to times! and for fucks shake, carl michael "czral" eide(dodheimsgard, aura noir, ved buens ende, ulver) is by far a better drummer(and without those fuckin triggers!!!) and he learned to play by himself!! so burn this cd or buy it as a present to varg vikernes!
