"COOOOME ONN LIEEPPPZIGGG!!!!, JOIN US FOR PURE FUCKING ARMAGEDDON!!!!" shouts Dead, and this bootlegged record is fucking amazing. Although poor in quality its perfect for Mayhem, playing tracks from Deathcrush and De Mysteriis we get to hear Dead sing classics like Chainsaw Gutsfuck and Freezing moon.

Wish they had a better recording of it. Kinda sloppy. Dead's performance is great though.

If there is any record to own from the mayhem catalog, this is it. If you are a Black Metal fanatic, or even if you are just curious about the bizarre Norwegian Black Metal Scene, this is an outstanding document of the sheer violent ferocity and frightening presence of this band. The poor sound quality of this live recording enhances its atmosphere in the same way that the grainy, low fidelity picture and sound of old horror movies increases their respective atmosphere. The band literally rips through roughly 45 minutes of music without showing any sign of fatigue or boredom. Led by Dead, the consumate Black Metal vocalist, the group produces a sound that fits their image well; ugly, profane, satanic, murderous, and evil. On perhaps the finest track, "Carnage", each member of the band, but particularly Dead and Euronymous, sounds superhuman and beyond frightening. Even eleven years after the recording, considering the level of ridiculousness in the extreme metal scene, Live in Leipzig presents Mayhem as a group to that was to be taken very seriously.

This is okay, but definitely not worthy of the hype that I had read about it. The guitar sound is a major plus - real thick, gritty, and disgusting (think Deathcrush but with more volume and dissonance). I would also like to say that I think Dead's vocals are really crappy. Vile, yes, but crappy. The drum sound is really flat and Hellhammer seems to have quite a lot of trouble keeping up in the faster sections. Really, the only reason I've kept this CD is for its novelty value: horrible and INCOMPETENT sound engineers (there's at least a few times when the guitar's volume drops significantly) and Dead's hilarious intros (not to mention an incident where a bunch of shrill static drowns out one of his drunken speeches...HA!). MayheM freaks might find a reason to play this for more than a handful of times, but I might just dub this and give it away. Not at all special, really.

This is one of the most sick records I ever heard. The vocals of Dead are the best there is. I cannot describe how much I like this album. The best songs for me are Necrolust and Carnage.

This is a great album. A must for every black metal fan. The guitars are very raw and the vocals too. If you don't own this, then you don't like good music.

This album kicks major ass. Raw black metal at its best. Dead's vocals are great. If you don't own it, then get it. Or you'll be a pussy.

The most legendary live album in the whole Black-Metal-Scene.
...and unfortunately the only official live recordings with Dead on vocals. If you don't own a copy of this masterpiece:

BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!

every time this year this dark fog will apear!!
funeral fog my fave mayhem song aspacely on this album!
dead is probaly the best bm singer in the whole world!
but now the real review..live in leipzig is : brutal, fast, ugly, its just perfect.the real killer rifs and the perfect live performance of dead made this the perfect album for me it is far more better than the mysteriis dom sathanas(dead is fare more talented than atilla !) the sound quality is realy shit.that is maybe good and bad at the same time. bad sound is good for mayhem but : the sound quality of de mysteriis dom sathanas on this album would make it the best album ever.
too bad that dead killt himself and euronymous was murderd by varg:(:(:( if not we where enjoying real mayhem.but don't get me wrong new mayhem is also good (except for grand declaration of war)but old was far more better

buy and enjoy!

i agree with you... if "De Mysteriis..." would be recorded with the classic lineup of: DEAD, Euronymous, Hellhammer and Necrobutcher it would be THE BM album... it would be the top of all. (anyway i respect this album very much... but attila doesnt sound THAT good).
... but no... there has to be this fucking mainstream which killed Dead and there has to be this stupid little kid Vargi

ok... anyway this live album is really nice... the sound is bad but much better than the other bootleg where dead's vocals where on (i think it was "the dawn of black hearts").
Deads vocals also are not sounding the best here (but also a lot better than Attila on DMDS). They sound a bit too powerless (almost like Darkthrone's vocals on "Panzerfaust"). Anyway a listenable production and a great album... get it!

10/10 (more 9,5 but who cares ;). 9 would be to less for this amazing album)
