This was the first CD I listened to of this german band called Morrigan. The music reminds me of Bathory; the epic, hymnic and also fast, merciless songs are defintively inspired by Quorthon's first records.
It starts with the title-track 'Celts', a great and silent intro: An acoustic guitar, some soft samples, trance-like singing and some raven-cries that give the perfect introduction to the following tracks.
It fades into 'Giants of Stone', one of the BEST songs I have ever heard so far. The hymnic, slow rythm with the same voices of the intro mix after 3 minutes with a raw and mind-blowing cawing. Samples of riding horses and a working blacksmith tune in. Although this song is 8:30 minutes long, it could go on eternally. You wouldn't notice, it's just that stirring and ingenious.

The following songs are diversified and all in different tempos (the second and the third track are totally different in that point), the raw and the hymnic, clean voice harmonize perfectly. The whole album creates an atmosphere that doesn't let you want to skip only one track.

Although this band higly reminds of Bathory, it has its own style and is one of the greatest BM bands here in germany. Sadly their CD's are always pressed in limited editions, so the older records can often only be found on ebay.

Recommended to everyone who likes raw, epic black metal. Listen to the songs on morrigan.org ('Giants of Stone' or 'When 1000 Candles cry'!) It's really worth it's time!
