Bar none! Cadavaria rules!!!!! Hailing from Italy, (where else?) comes Opera IX. Easily one of the best Sinister Black Metal bands ever. And the lead vox, Cadavria is the reason for it, not that the other members of this band are slouches either. Sinister Black Metal with a Gothic twist, if that can be imagined. I have all of this bands releases, and one is just as good as the other, with Black Opera being the pinnacle of their discography. No other female vox in metal today can reach the outstanding vocal display of Cadavaria. She has got a way of changing her voice from Black Metal type ragings to beautiful soprano stylings that my ears have ever had the pleasure of hearing. Whether you are into Black, Gothic, Sinister rock of any kind, this band will give you hours of orgasmic release. Also of note are the classical keyboard ramblings of Lunaris. Simply awesome! Any metal minded person who doesn't like this band, should have their head examined. This is what metal is all about. Now, I have been heard!

This is just a follow-up to my previous review of Black Opera. I just found out, 2/4/02, thru the bands web-site, that Cadavaria is no longer a member of Opera IX. For shame! Without her, I feel this band will never be the same. I had some e-mail correspondence with their drummer Tanaris, and asked him where she might have gone as far as another band. He seemed to be very annoyed that I had asked and would not give me any info on her. For that, and cutting loose Cadavaria, I will no longer be a fan of their future endeavors. I will keep all posted of Cadavaria's whereabouts. If I can find her.

Competent playing but overall this is really boring. Opera IX have an annoying tendency to drag out their songs with riffs that don't even relate to each other. The keys really tend to do the trick of putting you to sleep if the happy, unrelated guitar riffs and Cadaveria's often annoying vocals don't. I suppose this'll appeal to a lot of people, seeing the amount of pretty boys who stick their noses in Metal so they can feel "special".

I only have listened to Act I: The First Seal. This song is so superbly brilliant! I really enjoy it, even if I listen it ten times after eachother. This Cadavaria! Oh! Breathtaking. I really agree with DENNIS R. on that one. I hope he finds Cadavaria, and I hope she will have another band soon... can't wait!

Probably the best female black metal vox out there! Not as fast as Dimmu Borgir or as brutal as Marduk but the atmosphere Opera IX create on this record is brilliant. Very dark and earie.
