Don't think Samael of being a black metal band. Since Passage and eternal, they moved into the metal world of industrial. | Eternal blew me away a few years ago and my expectations where high for Reign of light. Sadly it can only partialy gratify me. The music is close to eternal, but isn't as exciting. The numbers are easy, nice and with less industrial sounds. Samael played it safe and good. For the people who enjoyed Eternal and bands like Rammstein. Great popular industrial metal with oriental influences, but with no surprise Review by: aegirson Woaw! Hahaha! Unbeleiveable. My favourite band, Samael are back with a new LP. This one is incredible. Again, they redefined their own style and created something wonderfull. As always, Samael is a band of evolutions, not like other bands like Amon Amarth that shoot out 5 albums that are exactly the same (don't get me wrong, I kind of like Amon Amarth, but they're sooooooooooo boring). Samael did it. After an LP like Eternal which sounded dissapointing to many, they came with something closer to their Passage masterpiece. This album isn't really better than Passage, but the best I can say is that it's equal. As a matter a fact, it's difficult to compare Passage, Eternal and Reign Of Light, due to the fact that each of them is so different from the other. What's for sure is that the musical genius, Xytras, is back with an unsurpassed melodicity combined with Vorphalack's violent vocals. What's so great about this is that you can actually UNDERSTAND a large part of the lyrics. I've been listening to Black Metal for some years now, but this is the first album where the sound IS black metal and part of the lyrics can be understood. The other will make sense when reading them. If you're an open minded rocker, you'll absolutely love this album. If you're one of those guys that are affraid of lyrics that don't contain the words "demon", "Satan" or "666", then go and get some Marduk. Same if you're one those who think that keyboards are crap in music. This album is another step forward for Samael, the band that started with some run of the mill demos, three LPs largely preocupied with satanism and the occult and that after grew into one of the most innovative metal bands in the world. The lyrics on this album are largely about life and existence (from what I've been able to understand). Since Passage, this has been a band that grew up. They matured from the kiddy lyrics about satanism that still fascinates some people (can't understand why) and some bands still sing like that. In conclusion, this is close or equal to the masterpiece Passage and re-affirm Samael's position in the Metal world as one of the most experimental and original bands on the planet! Review by: theaxonn I was totally dissapointed after listening to this album. After the high standart they set themselves with great alubms such as "ceremony","passage" & "eternal" I expected something good... Welp... Inshallah is an O.K. song, but thats it. While eternal was great electronic metal this one is just lame...the vox suck ass,the songs tend to be boring & the lyrics r stupid =\ 4.5/10 Review by: soulsphere i will have to compare this album with their previous release (Eternal) because it's more near to it (electro-industrial sound). The album is not bad at all but here some parts remind me for Clawfinger- especialy the vocal recitatives & some of the guitar riffs too, its imo & its not all the time, but have to be mentioned because it's new. The vocals are the typical (raw & deep) & nonetheless i find here more industrial elements than needed for such a great band. Don't get me wrong- this is Samael, no shit, but i miss that dark atmosphere & space feeling from Eternal, it is point of perception may be, dunno. Anyway -the new samael is a title that i decided that i have to have. Review by: Black-throne
