Grey Skies Fallen
Cold Dead Lands

1. Visions from the Last Sunset

The prophecy, once whispered in a dream
Told me that I’d be here
Right now to see
Our end of times
This vision opened my eyes
When I try to visualize
Our darkest day, when the sun has gone away

What could have been
Had we learned to live together
If we only knew
The price we’d pay in the end

The gathering, left staring at the sky
Puts life into perspective
Question the reason why
The end has come
Can this become undone?
We’ll find, as time goes by
Our brightest day, has long since gone away

Rays of light, consumed by dark of night
This wasn’t how it was to end
Through all the chaos and the misery
We cannot break, nor can we bend

The blackened sky, and now a dead earth
This place in time, no hope for a rebirth
Reflecting on the actions that have doomed us
This thing we had has now and always consumed us

Waiting for light that never comes
Recollections of a better time
Feelings of regret infest my mind
As I step into this tortured realm

And I see my whole life just flash before my eyes
Was our stay on earth just a waste of time?

I’d like to know

These visions
Born of night
These blackened visions

Waiting for light that never comes
Recollections of a better time
Feelings of regret infest my mind
Gaze into the desolation

2. Cold Dead Lands

Is this the way we saw the world
Back when we dared to dream?
Distorted views held by the ones
With means to destroy
Upon arrival, things become
Almost clear as day
So many days have come and gone
They’re burned in our minds

But now when we open our eyes
The view is so empty
Punishment now rains down from dark skies
And covers the earth
Fear, the fear spreads so quickly
It seizes the unsuspecting mind
The limbs will soon follow
Yes, we’re all paralyzed

Came to in the dim light
Cold rain burns my skin
I don’t feel right, like a part of me has disappeared
I’m trying to make sense of what I see
And to come to terms with what I face
This desolate plain before me

I see the world and it’s cold and dead
The fires that did rage, those flames don’t burn
The battle we staged, took a fatal turn
So now what we have before us are Cold Dead Lands
I see the world and it’s cold and dead
The longer we stayed, the faster she died
Ignoring all the signs, brought our demise

3. Procession to the Tombs

Soothsayer
Show me what is seen
Through the eye that defies the laws of time
Ancient one
Who foretold the fall of man
Knows his words will go unheard again
Out of time
We are marching to our graves
Silently and without much resistance
It’s too late
As the empty tombs await
Our arrival, now we claim our rightful place

Say farewell, for we will never return
Looking back, I wish we’d never been born
Thinking that we had karma to burn
Finally, from this world we’re torn

The seer was right
And everything foretold came to pass
The nightmares came first, they crept
From below, they seemed so real
Dawn never came
And we came to the realization
That we had done this to ourselves
Yet we continued down that path
Despite many times being shown the way

We’ve been lost to time
Forsaken the earth
In the blink of an eye
We’ve lost it all in the name of greed
Turning a deaf ear to the people who plead
For their lives
It must be done
Ignoring the words
We've heard all along
Repetition, this cycle won’t end
We pay for neglect with our lives

Silent landscapes frozen in time
Progress halted, no reason or rhyme
System broken, it led to our doom
This is the procession to the tombs
Welcome darkness, goodbye light
Must embrace this endless night
I was torn but now I see
There’s no place for you or me

4. Picking Up the Pieces

Before me lies
remains of what used to be life
It’s not the first time
I’ve seen the depths, or felt the cold
Come to terms
With how things are now
I need to find some inner strength to carry on

I hadn’t seen it
Picking up the pieces
But now I feel it
Picking up the pieces
Now to deal with it
Picking up the pieces
I’ll always feel it,
Picking up those pieces

Down in the dirt, gathering up all the broken fragments
Feels like It’s been forever and a day
At times I drift, I feel I’m by the wayside
The great fall now seems so far away

I hadn’t seen it
Picking up the pieces
But now I feel it
Picking up the pieces
Now to deal with it
Picking up the pieces
I’ll always feel it,
Picking up those pieces

I cast my fears into dead oceans
Need to let these memories fade away
Up til’ now, I’ve gone through the motions
Must claim what’s left, it’s time make a change

Just let it burn
And build upon these ruins
It’s finally my turn
To turn the page and walk away

Just let it burn
And build upon these ruins
It’s finally my turn
I should have done this long ago

Peace of mind is better than chaos
Place the blame squarely on me
Take this lesson with you
And don’t follow my path
Hate to see the past repeating
Must not let this get to me
Yet here I am, still picking up the pieces once more

Just let it burn
And build upon these ruins
It’s finally my turn
To turn the page and walk away

Just let it burn
And build upon these ruins
It’s finally my turn
I should have done this long ago

5. Ways of the World

They’ve ascended, overcome with power
It speaks to how they lead their lives
Looking down, from an ivory tower
Their permeating gaze, filled with hate
I find it hard not to feel defeated
Consumed by an impending dread
Blatant lies, they are told as needed
Controlling minds, despite what has been said

A stimulating thought buried in silence
Needs to come alive, or never be heard
So stand alone and rise above the others
Don’t let them control the ways of the world
The ways of the world

The answers that I’ve searched for
Have been here all along
And now I see the real truth
When I finally open my eyes

I’ll make my own way
I’ll take the lead
Impaired by no deception
I’ll never need anything they can
Offer me, just sacrifice
For a better life
Or so they say
But now I know it means nothing
It means nothing

They influence the weak of mind
Lead the lambs to the slaughter
Suffocating limitations
Imposed upon the ones in need

I implicate the ones above
A gross misuse of power
Confronted and taken down
For the betterment of our lives

6. After the Summer Comes the Fall

We find it so hard to see beyond tomorrow
While concentrating only on today
Deep inside I hope we hear the call
Because after the summer comes the fall

Here we lie, but a speck in time
Heading towards a sad demise

No longer are we innocent
Just comfortable and ignorant

Greed...crave all the power
Need...in the end to have it all
Plead...as they devour
Consumer of life, harvester of souls

Cries fall on deaf ears
All of the time
Lies peddled freely
When did our world come to this?
Even in good times
Our eyes had been closed
Comfortable and ignorant
When did our world come to this?
When did our world come to this?

The line is drawn
The choosing of sides
Is proving difficult
One time
We get one chance to fix this now
The end draws near
This twisted place in time
Has us at war
As hopeless as it seems
We’re fighting for our lives

More than just words
Decisiveness is needed
We seek a clear mind
To lead us through the darkness
To carry the flame
Let the fire consume them
And force them away
From whence they came

With our eyes now open
The path to life
Has been restored
Not ignored
Avoided the worst consequence
Shattered hearts now beating
I hope this lessons understood
If we could
Do it all again just better
