The vicious vikings continue to be more and more mild over time... Amon Amarth's my favourite band, but this CD is only suitable for relaxation purposes, or as a background when I read something. It lacks the power and dynamics of "The Crusher", which is my favourite AA album.
Fate of Norns offers you a soft, sentimental, but still skillfully crafted load of music. Alas, it's even more tender than "Vs the world".
It's quite ok if you want to sit for a while on couch, daydreaming of drakkars piercing through shiny waves in the blaze of a fiery sunset, but you can be pretty dissapointed if you expect a rush of raw viking bloodlust and power.

amon amarth sure took some steps backwards with this album. all the way back to thier true glory days. this album is not as "mainstream" as vs the world and they went back to their old really great sound. heavy drums and awesome guitarwork. this album is a must if you're into amon amarth or viking metal in general.
without doubt their best album since "the avenger". the only bad thing is the lenght of the album, which is rather short

8/10

great return from this band ,their former album was good but i think a bit commercial, and this new album seems to be more in the vein of their older records. i like a lot their use of melodies and they perform their style with strong conviction . besides, something that they corrected is the vocals that were a little "artificial" in the "versus the world" album. highly recomended !!!

This album has a more epic feel than the others as it is slower and more pounding.Where death seems to dwell is a slow spoken word song which is fuckin kool(Johan's vocals are great)Anyway not as good as Once Sent From A Golden Hall but still recommended.9 stars

After the great epic viking (death) metal releases 'The Crusher' (2001) and the even better 'Versus the World' (2002) we now get a hear different side of Amon Amarth.
Gone are the brute fast parts of death metal fury.
The new album 'Fate of Norns' is basically a mid-tempo viking death metal record. And that's also my only critical point to this record. There are absolutely no weak tracks on this album (in my opinion), but the tracks are just more of the same. 'An Ancient Sign Of Coming Storm'is a good opener for this record, and overall one of the better songs on this album. 'The Fate Of Norns' and 'Pursuit Of Vikings' are also very good mid=tempo death metal songs with a lot of great riffing and a nice structure. 'Once Sealed In Blood' is a great song with great pounding drumwork and some very nice guitarriffs, definitaly the best track of this album next to 'An Ancient Sign Of Coming Storm'. The vocals are also quite nice. If you search for a descent (only) mid-tempo viking death metal cd you can buy you can blindly buy this one. If you are more of a faster, varied death metal fan, or just a fan of the earlier work of Amon Amarth then first listen it before buying!

Awesome Viking metal. They stick to the same winning concept and it works on me. This one is for all you angry boys (or girls?) out there!
