this is the idel album to hear in a lonely night, embraced by darkness, when you have lost a loved one.Songs like LOVELORN RHAPSODY will show you how powerful is sadness to compose good songs.this band does not need excesive keyboards, chorus and other things that nowadays are very used by most of bands. This is hopeless made music, tears made notes, romantic pain in every word.we should adore this band for this amazing songs.Believe me,there are only a few cds like this.consider yourself a chosen one if you have heard to this album and you enjoyed it.if you like doom metal in its purest form and you have not listened this album...what are you waiting for? | Review by: francisco I had seen a videoclip of Sweet Tears and i went to buy the Lp. It didn't failed me. Slow doom metal (only Sleepless speeds up), sad melodies and brilliant, just brilliant lyrics. Man, ain't Darren White a fuckin' poet of our times? Review by: toni t "Serenades" is like an ocean of sadness--not the petty wrist-slashing teenage angst of later Anathema. Rather, it is deep... very deep. The drums pound rather than beat, Darren's gut-wrenching growl gives voice to all sorrow, and the guitars intertwine and wind around each other to create an atmosphere of intense, surreal suffering. This album is very close to perfection. And, without a doubt, the crowning achievment is "Lovelorn Rhapsody". Possibly the saddest song (or, rather, poem) ever written. --Bacchus Review by: yrathore Oh, so much pain, so much sorrow... Probably the most depressing album ever brought out in the U.K. Extremely slow rhythms, dipped in the mud of human pain, depressing lyrics. This album leaves no light at the end of the tunnel. No hope will you find in here.. The album's top moment is undoubtly "Sleepless", a genuine serenade on war's victims. Review by: biochemist They are one of the big leaders of doom metal....... go figure. good shit. Review by: Hellboy506 This one has to be my favorite doom album ever. each second of this masterpiece fits just perfectly. everything here, from start to end, is done excellent and is special and unique; the vocals, the riffs, the drums, the production, simply everything. Darren White's vocals are the most emotional male vocals i've heard, with his beautiful unique voice and romantic "accent". the guitar lines, which may sound simple, are so beautiful and moving, in a way like no other. when i put this album on, i have no choise but to sit down and listen - this can't be no background music, as it catches one's attention in a very intense way. the feeling is like a most fascinating love tale which is being told by the accompany of a serenading guitar solo. the lyrics, much like the guitars, are quite simple and general, yet so touching. bottom line, Serenades is truly the title this album deserves, it is a true classic. 11/10 Review by: forgotten In the same style as the "Crestfallen"-EP. Sad, sad, sad and slow. That´s right, this is no background music. You´ve got to listen! Even the last song´s not really necessary. Review by: Body As i wrote on the review of Crestfallen. Get this. French song is a soft song with female vocals. Just as good as Everwake. All songs are sweet. Doom metal with detuned guitars. Yes, but its smth better than Doom Metal. They Die... Fuck fuck fuck its one of their best songs. They threw out Darren White after this. His lyrics are superb. His vocals are crushing. Metal fans often say that smt is an art or dark art or smth like that. Its often an exaggeration. But hell anathema is really smth special. Just as My Dying Bride of early 90's. Anathema survived. MDB is a shade of past greatness. Or maybe matal is dead? I dont know... 10/10 Review by: Mac
