This album is atypical of Asphyx. Its pretty good but the band was being run by the drummer only at this time (both guitarist and singer left). Its more melodic, also more rockish as were many death bands at this time (Morgoth, "Feel sorry.." Massacre "Promise", Atrocity "Blut", etc.) They make a comeback after this with the Soulburn album but lost much of their fan base. Not for those getting into the band for the first time, but for those into stranger death metal, this may appeal to you. I liked it. | Review by: starchildo Horribly under rated effort. Asphyx at this point were down to two members, basically, and were not at all focusing on the doom aspects of their sound. Instead, Asphyx here were in the thrash direction; what "God Cries" is, then, is quite unique to Asphyx. Theo and Bob aren't just going through the motions though, they obviously are very much dedicated to their craft and rather than just an exercise in nostalgia, they present a completely fresh take on death thrash. While many feel this is Asphyx at their worst, there are a few who believe "God Cries" is an overlooked masterpiece. Review by: Burritobrother
