Memoria Vetusta( Fathers of an Icy Age) is a conceptual album.Though similarities can be made toBathory`s Blood on Ice this story is quite different . | Lyrics were written fairy well and you can vividly imagine what is happening within each particular song. But still they are a bit obscure .I like the part where they found themselves in the Ghostwood . Musicianship an this album is absolutely great.. Vindsval(the main man behind the band) combines a lot of tempo changes:fast, slow ,midpaced rhythm of a raw electric guitar Besides usual black metal tremolo picking he added a lot of cords of doom metal origin. All solos sound rather sad but very professionaly done and they also have doom metal influences. This combination between black and doom parts serves to create the inimitable atmosphere of northen epic. Drumming is just exellent - great battle rhythms!!! Echoes, female vocals and additional sparce synths parts were used for the atmosphere.Amid the flow of music you can notice otherwordly sounds like distant cries. An essential album for all viking ,pagan black metal lovers!!! Review by: flowergatherer this is the bleakest sounding black metal album ive ever heard, but it never gets boring at any point. Track 7 Fathers of the Icy Age is a glacial masterpiece, and the whole thing has a very distant, icy sound with some mournful and ancient sounding leads. Incredibly beautiful and sorrowfilled work Review by: isoder
