nu metal...*oh jeuj* | Review by: yutacan better than their last records as Midian or Bitter.... but worst than the first as V Empire or Dusk... This album is in my opinion very different of others and more symphonical with less Dani's screams but after first listening i find it's a quite good album... it's clear it's not true black but I like it. if all bands make true black metal I find that it's too less different. Cradle Of Filth are good in innovations, just listening Damnation and a day. 7-8/10 Review by: Meka_Boss This album is very good, a beautiful symphonic orchestra Review by: 6carlo6leone6 This is a COF album which sounds a bit like vempire , but quite modern this time , a few electronics and weird voices ( not often ,it makes me think of sirenia ). Lucky as we are 17 tracks does not mean all short songs , but 5 orchestrated intermezzo's that are EXTREMELY well composed ,'damnation and a day ' can be also quite rough at times ( is that a black metal version of nile on 'dobberman pharaoh'? ) dani is as always brilliant as a song writer and serpent tongue (or whatever ) . Let's face it , there are not much bands with lyrics like this band , not to mention if there are any other good bands on sony. 9.5 / 10 ( platina metal ) Review by: um jammer nectarus well...i totally changed my opinion on this cd my first review was when i heard Babalon AD the single and the album is muuuuuuuch better i'll put a review here when i heard it trough and trough :) Review by: Yutacan Well, this album is perfect. A little diferent than other albums of COF. It has more death metal riffs and more variety than latest albums. Album is very complete, instrumental parts are supreme, subject is different and very good. The more I listen the more I enjoy and think that is a perfect album. Although I suposse people who vote a 1 to this album don´t know anything about black metal and its variety (those close-minded of true black metal take it personally - I suposse you would give higher notes to all Ramoncín albums). Finally, this album is worst for me than Dusk although better than Midiam. Review by: aldanar This album is amazing!! This is the first COF album i have gotten and it was a lot better than i thought it would be. The orchestra, female vocals, and narratives make this band less boring and much more than your average goth/black metal band.Every song is amazing, especially Mannequin, the three songs in Fantasia Down and Presents From The Posion-Hearted Review by: metalmaniack Hail, I'll keep it short, I thought CoF was lost forever after those bad 4 years including Midian, Bitter Suites, ... But they are back! But this album is not to be compared with their classics from the period '94-'98, let me say that Damnation and a Day is a great album from the post-CoF period! Review by: cruel_wolf COF is a shame to the Black Metal scene ~ what a joke ~ Sign with the fucking label Sony. Review by: Ahlan After saw Cradle Of Filth live during the Damnation And A Day it's surely my favourite Cradle Of Filth album. There are so many awesome, is impossible to dont like it. Maybe i'm not those fans who are into Cradle Of Filth from when COF born because im' quite young i'm their fan from 3 years and i have to say that i love them everyday more. Their music make me feel in hell something beautiful. Talking again about DAAD i have to say that my favourite song is 'Babalon A.D.' because the lyrics are amazing. the concept of this album is really cool because it talks about the best thing in the world: Lucifer. this album is really awesome, who hasn't it has to buy it absolutely Review by: cradleoffear The fuck? WHO called this album NU-Metal? So what? they're doing Ozzfest with a bunchof shit bands, and have yet to replace Gian... BIG whoop. I happened to have liked this album from start to finish... but there are a few problems I had with it: -Adrian's drumming. He's very skilled, but his drumming honestly sounded like passing gas. There's no power, no terror like Nick or Was. Especially on this album compared to Midian I liked Midian because the guitars complimented the drums, and the over abundance of synths on Martin's partin. But on this one I felt a heavy lack of atmospherics (keyboard and orchestral). -Where are all the solos? Carrion was a track that hit back to the good ol' days of Cradle. I liked it. But I was disappointed in the lack of solos... at least Midian had Amor E Morte's crazy solo. -Dave is good on bass. Although I miss Robin, he was crazy on guitar and even crazier on bass. Martin, on the other hand, should stick to synth (guitars weren't handled well, Paul should have done rhythm guitars too.) Review by: malevolant_seraph Cradle of Filth has made some changes with this release, but it's all to the better if you ask me. I would rate this album as Cradel's third best so far with only Vempire and Dusk... being better. Though, I don't think The Promise of Fever was a very good song and absolutly not as opening-track. But that dosn't matter when there are songs like Better to Regin in Hell, An Enemy Led the Tempest and Doverman Pharaoh. 8/10 Review by: Count Bathor Well this album is better then Bitter... its not shit but just crap has some good songs. But if Dani was smart he would get Stuart back. Review by: cryingbloodevil This album is by far the best work CoF has ever done, it far surpasses any of their previous albums. I mean come on, a concept album on Satan, who the fuck does that? Other then Dani's voice of filth it's amazing Review by: Dire This is obviously not the old school Cradle, but this is a great album nontheless. The orchestration is fucking amazing, Martin is definetly one of the best things that happened to Cradle. The music seem to be more guitar driven than on the previous releases in the sense that it compliments the drums less and the keyboards are often in the backround, and though I wish it was the other way this didn't ruin my enjoyment of the album. The guitar work is really good, and remains interesting throughout the album, but I do feel that the complementing symphonies are missing, this is really the only complain I have about the album. Lyrically it's just as great, Dani re used many old tricks but he managed to out do himself once again, and the concept is really cool, especially complimented with the amazing artwork. So baisicly awesome album, but lack of complementing keyboards costed it a bit. My grade: 8.5---> will probebly change to a 9 with time. Review by: Lord Luzifer I'm one of the biggest Black Metal fans in Egypt, and also a great Cradle of Filth fan. And I appreciate Popular Black Metal bands like Cradle of Filth, but wit this album I don't know what to say, is this album good one or bad one? well it's definetley a good album, but not real BLACK METAl, maybe if they define it as a gothic album it would be fine.... well the album isn't heavy enough, but the bass guitar is very good and there is some melodic metal in tracks like Babylon A.D. or Mannequin, which I consider 2 of the best tracks ever presented by Cradle of Filth. Martin Powell is doing great work with the keyboards, but I think Dani is just trying to dominate the album with his vocals, his voice is louder than the music and he does some verses where I think it's supposed for Music to take place (musical allotment mistake??) But I don't know why everytime I listen to this album, I feel that this isn't Cradle of Filth, it's weaker or something, and it lost it's unique Gothic Black Metal aura. A lot of ppl define this album as SHIT! even here in Egypt were I believe Black Metal and Cradle of Filth have a lot of fans this album isn't included in CD stores!!! but b4 u define it as SHIT, try to take time to notice that this album is the best selling Black Metal album ever, according to Billboard, it's also the first Black Metal album to have a track in the Top 200 of Billboard, and on the Musical channels specialized in metal as Viva Polska and Kerrang! the video Babylon A.D. is from it's Top 10 videos and is doing a great job in the viewers' choice. well, I guess that's it.... if u love Gothic Metal, buy this album, but if u expect to listen to Cradle of Filth music like in Dusk and Her Embrace, then this album is definetley not 4 u. Review by: EgyptianSatanicMetalHead Ok - I was skeptical at first but this IS better than anything they've done since Cruelty... and it's getting better every time I hear it. There's only a couple songs I don't care for, and out of 12 (not counting the symphonic stuff) that's not bad at all. Whether or not they're actually "back" remains to be seen IMO, but this is definetely a good start. 88 / 100 Review by: msatan81 Well as i said before the intermezzo's are EXTREMELY well composed ... Do I need to say more , buy it for the intermezzo's and skip the rest , especially when dani sings - augh my stomache! trash this album ( let's hope this is also the next release of syndrome of down ~ or something like that) Review by: um jammer nectarus hello, this cof album is´nt bad, but... it have not the intense of others productions, cof can do it better... oh!!!... ¨dusk...and her embraced¨... how much i miss you!!!!, can cof do it again???, i hope so... bye... Review by: Northvisions fucking nu metal shit it's no black metal anymore i liked dusk and her embrace and cruelty and the beast that were the onley symph black metal albums but it isn't true black metal dark throne and mayhem fucking rule !!! Review by: sir.antichrist Say whatever you say about them - good or bad, it doesnt matter. No matter what they are going to do they are nothing but black metal - wannabes now. They were good at some point but its all gone now since theve gone commercial. Sad - and whats ever more sadder is that they attract stupid shit metal -wannabes with them. I know a guy who listens to shit like slipknot and korn and he told me he enjoyes this shit and understands it.... i dunno - to me its just shows how this band got commercilized and went down the drain. Its just MY opinion however........... Dont take its personally my fellow metalheads. 666 IS SUPREME Review by: Raven Messiah And...here they are again!!! In spite of recent change of members, COF are back and they are stronger than ever! Their style is polished, firm and the orchestra and choir are finally REAL, not just ass-end keyboards. My personal favourite is "Better to reign in hell", but the excerpts with the orchestra and choir are marvellous, too. In some ways, "Babalon A.D." closes the circle that was opened with "Fantasia Down"... Simply outstanding! Review by: Ondina Don't know what's up with you guys... Just because the band fell into commerciality, doesn't mean that they do bad music... I think that in this album we miss a little bit of the previous essence we were used to, like in dusk and her embrace...cruelty... etc etc..but that doesn't mean it's not a good album...cause it is.. Most of you young freaks don't know what to think, your friends say the band is pure shit and you (without thinking by yourselves)go along...thinking that too, that disgusts me..but, whatever, just tired of seeing shitty reviews.. Cradle of filth has been and will always be a different band...like it or not, up to you.. This album can be pure shit (...it is not...), but the way you write your reviews is so...un-mature...gosh.. Review by: Vampyric THANK GOD FOR THE SUFFERING TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!!! the day i bought this cd i must have put that song on repeat over 10000000 times the only thing that dissapoints me about this album is that THERE ARE NO HOT PICTURES OF DANI Review by: Dani's Bitch So...I like this album... The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh: Their first effort, more raw music, melodic yet.. I think this is a perfect debut, all that a band could want for their first album. Just listen to "Black Goddess Rises", wich is the best music in the cd, and feel the nostalgia the song and the whole album brings. -> 93/100 Vempire: Seems like they have changed a bit... this outstanding album is a music's armageddon, great vocals, great guitars, great everything... some people complained about the lenght of the album, wich is only 36. I disagree at all, I think it's perfect the way it is. -> 97/100 Dusk And Her Embrace: Well, this is my favourite album along with Cruelty And The Beast... I personaly think the music has charm in every and single way. The feelings brought by this album is something that you can only recognize by listening, so give a listen, you'll see it's worth. -> 100/100 Cruelty And The Beast: Hmm, as I already said above, this is one of my favourite albuns from the band...why? do I really need to tell you why? na, don't think so, music is to be listened and appreciated (hopefuly), the band in this record and the previous one reached the top of music's esplendour. Charming vocals and riffs, great drums and keyboards..something really impressive. -> 100/100 From The Cradle To Enslave: Many people think this album is pure shit, let them think, there is different music, and different people to appreciate that. While listening to CoF, some suddenly feelings come to my veins...I'm all about this in music...I have to feel it deeply, this EP is nothing from the other world, but not that bad though. So, there's not too much to say about this one, I think. -> 78/100 Midian: This album is one of those that makes you feel great, the presence of the "horrorific" essence in the album is something great. There is a moment in the song Saffron's Curse, in the middle of the song, where the organ comes to your ears, you feel like all about the world is music, is cradle of filth. That one's a moment that the veins in your head stop working for a bit. Like a lot this album, but it has lost some of cradle of filth's essence, like in their previous works. -> 97/100 Bitter Suites To Succubi: Cradle Of Filth started losing themselves a bit in this album and they did not recovered till today. They gained something, they lost something. I don't think this album is pure shit, na, cradle of filth is there, only with a lot less nostalgic feelings. A lot lot less... -> 80/100 Lovecraft £ Witch Hearts and Live Bait For The Dead: Well, I'm putting these two together cause they're only two compilations from the band. They've picked up great songs and put them into the first cd of each compilation, the second cd in both compilations are nothing special, not a must buy, for sure, but for all the CoF fanatics out there, it is worth, in my opinion. -> For each one 70/100 Damnation And A Day: This is the most recent effort from the band wich in my oppinion it's not bad, the music structure is there, and well played, but, oh my...where are those moments of pure insanity that we used to feel in previous albuns from CoF? Well, I'm afraid they're not there, CoF is the band who brought me into more "dark" metal genres, if we could call it that..like black, doom, gothic etc etc, but they're not the same since Bitter Suites To Succubi. It is worth to buy cause it contains good music, but something really important is missing, I follow the music by nostalgic moments that it may cause, you've read enough this word in my review, but it is something that tells me too much. Pitty that this album does not contain that. Hope they're getting better in the next album, not at a musical level, but at an essence cause by their music level. -> 89/100 Sorry, the big size of the review, but instead of writing a review in each album's reviews place, I put all them together. Review by: vampyric this cd fucking rules and next to crulty and the beast this is by far the best cradle album ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review by: mutil8 Another great concept album from the most famous black metal band. Maybe their worst album, but still good enough for it's kind. I believe that for a concept like that, the music should be darker. The instrumental songs are really cool. The same goes for the lyrics (as always). The production is more mainstream than ever. And the music is great, but not all tracks kick ass, as it happened in Midian. 8/10. Review by: Forestarm First of all,let me point out that thier a fucking disgrace to black metal.Second of all, what the fuck happened dani's voice,he sounds like a fucking girl(like britany spears or some shit).Someone needs to beat the fuck out of him(pussy), wait...thats right, some dude from the "murderdolls" kicked his ass,hahaha...little pussy.I dont know why the fuck anybody would want to hear this shit when you could listen to some "real fucking metal" like VENOM,MAYHEM,PANTERA etc. Review by: nekrobeast I'm one of the biggest Black Metal fans in Egypt, and also a great Cradle of Filth fan. And I appreciate Popular Black Metal bands like Cradle of Filth, but with this album I don't know what to say, is this album good one or bad one? well it's definetley a good album, but not real BLACK METAl, maybe if they define it as a gothic album it would be fine.... well the album isn't heavy enough, but the bass guitar is very good and there is some melodic metal in tracks like Babylon A.D. or Mannequin, which I consider 2 of the best tracks ever presented by Cradle of Filth. Review by: EgyptianSatanicMetalHead This album kicks ass. I have a sensation when listening to music that some songs disgustingly stick to my head. There are hideous parts in every song that I hate and cannot expel from my thought. However, there are some very special albums that don't have this disgusting touch. One may be Dark tranquillity's "The mind's I", maybe because it sounds less baroque than other albums in their discography. This last installment in Dani's opus is also one of those examples. It may not be a perfect album, but I like it more than any other CoF album because every, and I reiterate, EVERY song in this album has some brilliant moment. Also, the work on vocals is great, the chorus part is simply superb (and a lesson for some Italian band of sword-wielding mighty warriors), the symphonic parts are NOT cheesy and awesomely composed and executed, and le coup de grace: melodic guitar lines! The day I listened to "Amor e morte" I thought "These guy's gonna kill the shit outta me the day they implement cool guitar lines like this in every song". Now they've demonstrated I was right :P Thanks for a masterpiece, Dani! Review by: razorhead hey supm this is hellbitch and this cd kickass everyone who loves cradle of filth sould go and get it thanx Review by: hellbitch666 I am a Cradle of Filth fan, I give all thier albums 10/10. However, this album disapointed me a little. I give this album 8/10 Review by: Incrave I must admit, this album is REALLY not as good as their others, but its still a good album. Theres not enough of those great piano parts that made the other albums what they were, and the guitar on some of the songs is way too simple for COF to be doing. The best parts of the album must be the orchestral parts, espicially for The Promise Of Fever. All in all, if you're looking for a COF album to listen to and never heard any of their stuff before, DON'T pick up this album as your first listening choice. Review by: Torch The Bastards "Just in time for gay T-shirts!!!" No need for a long discussion, Turst me its a waste of space in this world, along with its owners! Review by: theblack How dare these cunts call themselves a black metal act! With songs like Mannequin and Babalon AD, CoF should call it quits. I want my money back on this piece of shit album, I could have bought Darkthrone or some other proper black metal with the money. I wish someone had warned me of the gayness of this pathetic excuse for a metal cd. Avoid this nu metal bullshit. 0/10 Review by: necrohell i think wath is very diferent of the others albums but is not bad...i think wath is a greate idea all the album proyect. i didn'd like this album like the others but is a good album. Review by: bafomet This is probably one of the better albums they have released since their older days. But that isnt saying much. 76 minutes of pop metal gayness. 3 / 10 Review by: yob Fuck Cradle of Filth and fuck this album. Once I enjoyed listening to these English vampires, and I still hail albums like "Principle..." and "Dusk...", but over 70 minutes of pop-metal is absolutely expendable. 2 out of 10 Review by: Demonheart beginning of the end, COF without ANY inspiration Review by: luciferianlight My first Cradle of Filth experience. Nothing too special, but it blew me away on my first listen. My favorite tracks are Hurt & Virtue, Doberman Pharaoh, & The Smoke Of Her Burning. 7/10 Review by: Lokist After listenin 2 Bitter Suites To Succubi (some seriously shoddy coverwork) I decided never to listen to cradle again. Why? Because as Mike puts from ruthless reviews cradle are "Cradle of Filth isn’t black metal -- they're more a retarded version of Marilyn Manson aimed at really sexually frustrated teenage losers --". Anyway after my friend persuaded me to listen to cradle again because they were really good and that album was shit. So reluctantly I said Ok, after all he was burning the album for me. All I can say is this thats 70 minutes of my life im never going to get back. Seriously this album is horrible all the songs are boring and dani is the worst black metal vocalist ive ever heard, shit even i can do better black metal vocals, the only thing i can say is im glad i didnt spend money on this :/ Review by: Ope†h This is the cheeseiest album ever what kind of idiot would write a concept album about The Devil. We all know the story ,if you want real concept albums listen to King Diamond if i want to know about the fall of Satan i'll read John Millton biblical poem "Paradise Lost"(i am not refering to the comercial crap doom metal band with the same name).Anyway i would have prefered a concept album on Mr T. becouse i quite imagine Dani looking like the black(not metal style)man from the disco era with all the chains and gold.Since the band is into getting a new american audience they should get the help of James Brown the soul godfather for all the afro-american audience and do some real "black" metal for the "brothers" can you imagine Dani raping in the hood then they could call themselves a black metal band.Realy comercial shit i gave the album a 1/10 because i hate cradle of shit. Review by: chunga Yo, it's Joe!!! I love it! It's my favorite. I love the backgound orchestra, I love the instrumentals, I love Dani's singing, and I absolutely love the lyrics. I might not believe in Satan, but I love evil music and this is as evil as it gets. So buy it! Review by: joefilth I could only listen to this album once. I buried it in my collection after that and have never touched it since. A far cry from their early work. Review by: goatboy057 Totally crap and bull-shit.This group is only about money.Fuck them Review by: Desolation_death
