Everybody says that "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" is far superior than "Deathcrush". Well, I think that this is not entirely true. I've listened "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" so many times but I came up with the conclusion that it is not better. "Deathcrush" is not by far but a bit better. Maniac's vocals are so sick. They create a very heavy, depressing athmosphere. Music is more of a lower-tempo. I certainly don't enjoy the vocals on "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", Attila sounds as if he's drunk, there's certain irony in them that I don't like. Music is truly excellent though. The brutal sound that euronymous seems to be trying to attain is sabotaged by terrible drumming and the listener is often led to ask the question, "What if Hellhammer had been around for these sessions?" The venom cover is promising, if anything because the band sounds more comfortable playing it. Perhaps most frustrating is the fact that the song with the best title (Chainsaw Gutsfuck) is probably the worst song on the album. The album is worth seeking out because there are not many studio recorded documents of euronymous' strange guitar playing and even stranger vision. I wasnt expecting much from what I had heard about "Deathcrush", but it really kicked me in the nuts. RAW and AGGRESSIVE, just powerful music, you could really feel their passion on this CD. Maniac's eerie shrieking and the fuzzy guitars bring this CD together. Production is bad, especially on "Chainsaw Guts Fuck" hard to make out some of the nots, but that's what it's all about right?
