Best Metal album ever made, and don't come up with darkthrone shit instead, this one blewsevery single metalalbum away \m/

who the fuck was the producer of this album? the material on it would be one of the best metallica ever made. but the drums sound like shit, the guitars are somewhere far beyond anywhere and the whole thing sounds like it was produced with microphone standing somewhere in the room (maybe the toilet?). how good the stuff on it IS can be heard on diverse live-versions of them (e.g. live shit box)- i hope that someone could kick metallica's ass to reproduce/remix this whole CD. i wish it so much...

Ve4ry ritmic album, i like it a lot. Headbanging all the time:D. Production could be better though.

The third part of the trilogy including also “Ride the Lightning” and “Master of Puppets”. Again acoustic intro (this time not in the first but in the second track, the title one), ballad (“One”), instrumental (“To Live Is to Die”, but for the four lines almost at the end). To tell the truth, I could not ever say which one of the three albums is better. But why try and choose? The tracks are longer than in previous records, there are still more tempo changes, but the mood is the same: the band castigates our society’s vices exposed to everyone and highlights problems most strongly striking our eyes (and hearts). Unfortunately, they are innumerable: the now ecological apocalypse (“Blackened”), the rotten system of justice where anyone can be got at (“…and Justice for All” have become mere empty words), the absence of freedoms declared in different constitutions (“Eye of the Beholder”), the terrible existence of a disabled soldier wishing only to be delivered from his suffering by death (“One”), the persecution of dissenters (“The Shortest Straw”), a common man’s transformation into a madman (“Harvester of Sorrow”, “The Frayed Ends of Sanity”), not simple relations of parents and children (“Dyers Eve”). It’s really amazing how the band could recover from Burton’s tragic death. And what’s more, they released the album considered their best work by many. They may be right, but, as I said earlier, I’m at a loss for choosing. So let everyone choose to their liking! But my grade is ten, no doubt.

This album is awesome!!! This album is when Lars was at his peak. I have a thing for long songs (check reviews on edge of sanity and green carnation) so I absolutely love the two 9 minute songs, One is the best song of the album and the rest are ALMOST as good. Yet again...10 for 10.

At first, I thought this album wasn't too good. Then I began to listen more to each and every song. I changed my mind. THIS ALBUM IS THE SHIT! I love the complex drumming by Lars Ulrich. If you like heavy metal, BUY THIS ALBUM AND JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED.

no doubt, this and "master of puppets" are Metallica when it's best!!!!
but their producer have simply destroyed both albums!!!!
the guitars sounds like they recorded them in a garage! they sounds so thin that it's even pathetic!!! and the drums almost sounds like cans!!!
it realy takes the power and energy from the cool music and it simply destroys the albums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3/10

Another, and unfortunately the last good work of Metallica.

Due to the rage over the death of Cliff, this album is more agressive then others (hear Dyers Eve and Blackened which mark the edges of this album). After this work, the first Metallica
was buried with Cliff, the way it should have happened.
Continuing in this direction would be impossible without Cliff. Hail to the bass master, and hail to the last of the good works of Metallica !

I have to agree, this is probably metallica's greatest cd ever, i give it 10 for 10

there is something untouchable and sinister about the energy that flows through this lp and master of puppets:something that turns to decay...fire and ashes, before the wind blow every thing away...
the last and then only sickness

well this is the record that shows the great song writer james was(isn't any longer, sadly).the intro of the album is like wow, masterpiece, those twin guitars rocks!,(besides that is the only moment in the record when the bass can be heard! in that ascendent tonal thing "a la" steve harris).the harmonies, tempo variations, the intrincated solos by kirk(nice sweeping in one's intro),the great drum playing style by lars(see on and justice for all first riffs he emulates the guitar riffage with the mid and low toms)all of this is a masterwork.unfortunately jason's debut work here can't be hear at all.what a crappy bass mix,my gosh!!!.the instrumental song is maybe the weakest of the saga(ktulu, orion),but it has deep emotional meanings, due to cliff's riffs and lyrics used in it as an homage to him.although cliff's song is "orion",this has to be the second i think.the solo is a god diatonic melody that almost makes you cry out loud.what to say about "one",trully amazing, gun machine riffage at the end reflects the feeling and concept of the song and the spirit of the whole genre.
in a few words,if you don't have this piece of gold, you don't know what heavy metal is like.

This has always been my favorite Metallica record. Even though a lot of people complain about the production, I think it just adds to the overall dark atmosphere of the record. This is truly a masterpiece of heavy metal music. (10/10)

...And Justice For All..what to say? from the title it seems to be a great album. This album is a jewelery of that old thrash metal band. A great band which after the lost of their first bassist, Cliff Burton, was trying to stand on it's feet. In the memory of the best bassist player ever, the bass is almost muted. The riffs and the improved drumming of Lars Ulrich compose an excellent and hard album. The songs are over 5 minutes each and they are perfect in every detail. From the beginning with Blackened to the end with Dyers Eve the music drives you to another time, to the days where Metallica were writing for the music, not for the money. My opinion is that the best songs of the album are One (great solo \m/), To Live Is To Die (a masterpiece that includes riffs written by Cliff). And Justice For All is a great album which worths to buy.

According to Flemming Rasmussen, Lars Ulrich told me to use a different mix instead of the original version.
He said ‘Take the bass down so you can just hear it, and then once you’ve done that take it down a further 3dBs."

Cliff Burton receives co-writer's credit on "To Live Is to Die" as the bass line was a medley of unused bass recordings Burton had performed prior to his death.
While the original recordings are not used on the track,
the compositions are credited as written by Burton and are played by bassist at the time, Jason Newsted.
The words spoken towards the end of the song ("when a man lies, he murders some part of the world...") by Hetfield
were written by German poet Paul Gerhardt, but are mis-attributed to Burton in the liner notes.
