This is the worst album by Metallica.
It's so bad that the Reload now sounds like a masterpiece.
The most annoying part about the album is that James' vocal's so high pitched that it sounds so gay, and the fact that the songs just drag on and on for no reason.
I think "purify" just symbolizes how bad this album is.
Sadly, we can finally say that Metallica is dead.

Drums sound like garbage can - it makes me sick
Guitars are dirty and primitive - I don't know what they need Kirk for if there are no solos but just one loud chaos
Bass - hmm... is it realy there? - I almost can't hear it
Lyrics? - absolutely worst than ever

This album is a rip off - you should buy some Korn or Linkin Park albums instead - of course they suck too, but at least they didn't sell themselves

Ehm well, better tha nre load end load and metallica (at least harder). I can count 2 good songs on this album, frantic and shoot me again.
But the lyrics are very pathethic, and the snare drum sounds like an iron thing.
James is clearly gay with his great lyrics (im burning in anger with you, hahahahah).
Lar$ was allready known as a gay and a thief, closing napster cause the worst album they have made (load) didnt sell very well, which comes because it sucks.
The new bass oplayer is a mutated monkey i guess. And kirk.... what the hell are you still doing in this band? You can do so much better.
but like i said 2 songs are good so 2 of 10.

this is the worst cd i've ever heard. i can't say anything original, but the drumming sounds like absolute shit, the lyrics are fucking HORRIBLE (can't emphasize that enough), and "shoot me again" is probably the worst song ever written, by anyone, ever. i can't believe this is the same band that made those masterpieces back in the day. they really really REALLY need to give it up.

The very primitive guitar sound promised too much. The worse the letdown. Maybe it was because of the same song structure repeated over and over (Fast-Clean detuned guitar-Wimpy vocals-Fast again-Stupid drums-Again-Again). Or maybe it was the fact that it was so extremely boring that it was amusing to hear in total surprise how from one song to another the crap just kept piling up. No memorable melodies. No glorious solos (and no solos at all). Pointless double bass drumming. Just plain BORING NOISE. Is it somewhat brutal? Yes. But that alone doesn't equal good music, not even remotely entertaining.

Maybe it's not really a crappy album, it's just that memories from the 80's are still too strong.
Some say Metallica evolved and stuff, but really man, it is unveliebable how James can say with a straight face that this is the Metallica he has liked best and that they are at the top of their game again. At the top of a crap pile maybe. But even when you are at the top of a big pile of crap, the overview lets you see on top of what you are standing (Crap that is).

Only when you are stinking drunk it is posible to produce crap and to not smell it. Oh, that explains it all Jimmy.

Listen to some Slayer instead.

I will be 34 in feb. of 2004. I have been listening to metal since I was eight. I've seen many bands come and go. I believe the metal fan community is the closest knit family in music. And if I may speak as the father of this family? METALLICA IS DECEASED! This troft of horseshit is the most uncreative, unemotional, uninteresting, cd I have ever heard. Hmm.. instead of worrying about how piracy might take away from their sales, maybe the profit hungry has-beens in Metallica should instead be worrying about the fact that they haven´t released a decent album since 1991..
St Anger is, to no ones surprise, a bad joke..
I should have been used by now, but it still hurts a bit to realise that this is the same band that gave us ´Master of Puppets´, Ride the Lightning´ & ´Kill ém All´.
Give it up, retire or join a circus.. just, please, stop releasing these abominations...please?

Alright, I love Metallica, and anyone else who's bought one of their albums loves them also. Yet, these same people criticize and hate them because they've changed their sound. I mean sure it sucks, don't get me wrong, I love Metallica, but St. Anger isn't really that good, even for thrash metal, but you have to give them SOME FUCKING CREDIT for a)releasing an album after OVER 20 YEARS!! and b)releasing an album after how much shit they've been through. So basically, I see this album as an experiment, which flopped, but still, they tried and released something through all they're hardships. So I give them a 10/10 for effort, but for the album a 5/10. They just got a new member, so maybe this can be a wake up call for them to write some better stuff for their next album.

On this review of Metallica, St. Anger, I'm going to try to speak as few curse words as possible and try to speak eloquently. I remember A long time ago I would love to listen to bands like Slayer, Metallica, Metal Church, etc, and marvel at the glorious sounds of metal. But over the decade Metallica have been bludgeoned and beaten by their own creations. This album is no exception. No hostility or anger. But then again.. what could you be angry about when relaxing poolside surrounded by adoring beautiful women, which they surely were at the time of recording this garbage. The drumming is very humdrum. No guitar solos to brighten a bleak track. Vocals, are exceptable, nothing unusual. Sometimes I ponder if someone is playing bass. So I say marvel, marvel at the sounds of the old dark knights of metal. What I mean to say is listen to the old tunes of Metallica. Omega.

ok!ok...I think that St. Anger is a piece of shit for Metallica with the only not bad songs St. Anger and Frantic. But we have to tell that St. Anger is an awful album for Metallica. this band died after ...and justice for all. they got a little taste of money,and opened up to a new crowed of people,but they had to change their style to stay alive.
this cd is the best thing they've released since ...and justice for all, but as i said this band has died to many,and myself after...and justice for all. the old days are gone for this band. i don't think they can play that fast anymore without it sounding like crap.anyways...save your money because it's not worth buying as i only like two songs( st.anger frantic)

okay, honestly, what the fuck was metallica huffing when they descided to get rid of the guitar solos. this cd would be so much better if it had solos! There are a couple of alright songs on it. Unnamed feeling was alright, All within my hands and st. anger were the only good songs. I guess Sweet Amber was alright. But ya, i would have liked this cd alot more if it had more creative lyrics, and guitar solos.

This album can be summed up in one word: Shit. That's exactly what it is. Absolutely horrible production and the musicianship is garbage. This is not Metallica, this is the crap that a plumber pulls out from a clogged sink.

This just shows that Metallica can record themselves taking shits and it will sell.

I do have to mention that there is one high point on the album, the first few seconds of the St. Anger song are quite nice, then James Hetfield starts crooning and it goes all to shit.

"Nothing Else Matters" from the black album was a pretty good song, but because of that damn song, James feels he is some sort of great singer and tries to do it on all their songs now...

St. Anger has just one good riff and that´s Dirty Window. This song is pretty fast, but i don´t like the passage with hawai drums...it´s sounds like knocking on the table...

the lyrics have this stupid feel to them
it's like "oh no... i can't come up with some decent lyrics... so i guess i'll write some try-to-be-ambiguous lyrics about rehabilitation and finding peace and that i've suffered so much..." (= BULLSHIT)

kirk doesn't do any solo's

An interesting album, nothing wrong in experiencing a new sound; a REAL shame they didn't do it properly, it could have been a great album, the neo-metal influences could have been used in a much more subtle way, but the result is really boring; the first time you hear the tracks, you may find them quite "easy listening", but since most of them are 8mn long and the same riffs repeated endlessly, you might be fed up...
the more I listen to it the more I hate... better listening to SOAD. I give them 5, for a few tracks (dirty window, all within my hands, and "purify" for the good laugh ;p)...

Like in Blackened from ...And Justice For All? or songs like fade to black...metallica's problem is they went to rehab!! I don't know what had gone wrong here.This album is realy not what I had expected from Metallica..o one of the best bands on earth.It has made a hudge turn from what metallica sounded like in their older albums.I say that the music is quite good bun me and many af my friend(over 20) had expected something else.We expected a good and original album not a preaty comercial one.Anyway...Metallica is Metallica and we love it how it is because it was my first favourite rock band.:D :D :)

They were not metal fans... One of them showed me their DVD. He told me that LARS is such a good drummer. Fuck. He told me that LARS was sweating when he played and he thought that this defines a good drummer. No shit. Metallica fans are retarded. 15 years without a decent record. Fuck Metallica. Yeah.
Now i want nu metal version of Unforgiven!!! Give it to the masses guys. They will love it. They will probably buy it too.

this is the worst thing metallica had ever released.we have 11 very long songs (6-8 minutes long or even more)but in the whole song you hear just the same stupid riff and nothing happens.. the riffs become very simple and boring and james's voice sounds like crap. kirk finally understood that he cant play guitar and didn't play any solos. one more problem : the bass is too loud and kills the guitar work. and the worst: of course the worst thing about this album is the sound of lars's drums, witch sound like beating a tin-can!
